The first day of The Summit 3 had some unexpected results and what was thought to be a group with stiff competition proved to be otherwise. ViCi Gaming dominated the entire Group A and shut down both of their opponents Team Rave and Cloud 9 with no mercy, while Evil Geniuses faced the same devastation at the hands of Cloud 9.
The Summit 3 Day 1
The Summit 3 Group A
Group A was expected to be a group of close and exciting games. With ViCi Gaming coming directly off their loss to Team Empire in the D2CL finals and Team Rave being left without a direct invite to The International 5, both teams had much to prove. Evil Geniuses had not competed in a LAN since placing second at MLG Pro League, and has been seen competing with the new patch 6.84. Cloud 9 has been looking strong lately, after having placed third at StarLadder Season XII.
ViCi Gaming vs. Team Rave
ViCi Gaming dominated Team Rave in both games, due to superior drafts and execution. In the first game, with a draft heavily dependent on magic, VG countered with a Gyrocopter and Viper pick, giving the Philippine team little to no power to do much of anything. With a score of 11:2 ten minutes into the game, the outcome was clear. The second game was even worse for Team Rave, having lost complete control over the map and towers in just minutes into the game, leading to a fast end, in approximately twenty minutes.
Evil Geniuses vs. Cloud 9
Contrary to the typically long games that Cloud 9 are known for, the team destroyed Evil Geniuses in only 17 minutes during the first game and in 37 minutes in the second game. In the first game, C9 was able to pick off both heroes and objectives one by one with Adrian “Fata-“ Trinks on Dragon Knight overpowering Syed Sumail “Suma1L” Hassan and EG. The second game showcased an amazing clutch escape and a 16 minute radiance by Jacky “Eternal Envy” Mao, leaving EG with no hope for a comeback.
ViCi Gaming vs. Cloud 9
ViCi Gaming continued to dominate in their second series of the tournament, this time versus Cloud 9, who had just stomped the NA giants Evil Geniuses. Surprisingly, Cloud 9 last less time against the Chinese team than Team Rave did, with a twenty minute first game and 14 minute second game. In the second game Lone Druid had no creep kills by three minutes in while Daryl “iceiceice” Koh farmed his eight minute blink dagger and surprised top lane, forcing a 4:1 VG favored trade, followed by a steal from Rubick of the Lone Druid’s Summon Spirit Bear to push towers. The net-worth difference and deficit for C9 just spiraled downward quickly from there and the team called “GG” at minute 14.
