The Shanghai Major fourth day came to a dramatic end as The TI5 Champions shellacked the underdog Korean squad 2:0, eliminating the last SEA representation from the Major. MVP.Phoenix’s outstanding journey landed them into the top four, but they were unable to surmount the North American Giants, ending their compelling storyline.
Evil Geniuses continue to highlight Peter “PPD” Dager’s leadership and drafting skills, while appearing to have also worked out their synergy issues previously reported by various members of the team. Team work and coordination was on point, making it difficult of opponents to break through their defense.
The Shanghai Major began to wind down as the fourth day has already finished. The eliminations started early this morning in an All American showdown between Evil Geniuses and compLexity Gaming. The TI5 championship team cleaned up the lower brackets, 2:0, as they brutally fought their way to advance.
compLexity was the eleventh team to drop out of the event.
Fnatic being eliminated erases twelve teams from contention.
Shanghai Major results gave way to our first Grand Finalists -Team Secret. The European squad breezed in the upper bracket finals 2:0 over Team Liquid who dropped to the lower bracket finals.
MVP.Phoenix eliminated leaves only three teams standing.
Shanghai Major elimination: Lower Brackets
MVP.Phoenix vs. Evil Geniuses
The last elimination series of the day featured one of the underdog teams of the event against the Giant TI5 championship team. Evil Geniuses once again created a great draft, putting them in a position that the supports were able to be impactful. MVP.Phoenix began to lose their footing around seven minutes into the game. Their strategy started to fall apart after not having a strong laning phase for their core heroes. Evil Geniuses were able to take the lead and hold it tightly until the end as Artour “Arteezy” Babaev on Ursa and Syed Sumail “Suma1L” Hassan with Death Prophet dominated the match.
With an old school mid match up of TA vs Invoker the second game of the series got started. Evil Geniuses were able to find first blood and then continued to set matters straight, taking the early lead and maintaining control. Although MVP.Phoenix were getting crushed by Evil Geniuses, they were doing a fantastic job in their high ground defense, creating frustration and starting to turn the game around bit by bit about 29 minutes in. QO continued to show he was a beast when he has the ability to farm. MVP.Phoenix refused to give up and started to take EG’s control away and broke their high ground. In the end it wasn’t enough but more than admirable and impressive.
Shanghai Major results: MVP.Phoenix 0:2 Evil Geniuses. Evil Geniuses continues in the Lower Brackets, after getting MVP.Phoenix eliminated from the event.
