The Dota 2 SEA region has had an action packed week, receiving a lot more coverage and attention these days.
It was just last weekend that Malaysia hosted the Major All Stars Tournament, the region’s largest tournament to date. Since then, E-HOME.CN parted ways with their Malaysian squad, now known as MY, or Team Malaysia, Team Redemption received a lifetime ban from all Valve organized events, including The International, CORSAIR Gaming Arena took place, Red Bull Battle Grounds announced the region’s invited teams and qualification schedule and StarLadder StarSeries Season XII first group stage were completed.
Dota 2 SEA region events
Last week the Major All Stars tournament brought worldwide attention to the SouthEast Asia region and showcased their top talent and upcoming players, as they faced Team Empire, NiP, Na’Vi and IG. Although none of the region’s four teams – Team Invasion, Team Redemption, Rave and Can’t Say Wips, advanced into the semi or grand finals, the tournament gave fans an opportunity to spectate and meet players from the other regions of the world.
Red Bull Battle Grounds have just announced the four teams from the region to be participating in their qualifiers. MY, Rave, Can’t Say Wips and MVP.Phoenix will be the first group to compete on April 6. The winner will travel to the Red Bull studios in Santa Monica, California, for the playoffs, and will also make an appearance at the so-called Fan Day, scheduled later that week in the San Francisco Bay Area of California.
CORSAIR Gaming Arena was held this weekend, with 16 teams from the Dota 2 SEA region running for the $2,000 prize pool. The event featured a mix of invited and qualifying teams. The semifinals and grand finals took place over a two-day span. MY, Signature.Trust, 5eva and MVP.Hot6 played out the best-of-one series semifinals giving 5eva and MY the final showdown in the best-of-three grand finals. MY bested 5eva, 2:1, to claim the title and $1,500 prize.
StarLadder StarSeries Season XII wrapped up for the eight SEA teams involved: MVP.Phoenix, MY, Mineski, Signature. Trust, Team Invasion, 5eva, Nvidia, and G-Guard. MY and Signature.Trust will go into the second group stage undefeated, and will compete against the other two first group stage winners, MVP.Phoneix and Mineski. The winner from these four will be attending the LAN play-offs at DreamHack Bucharest 2015, in Romania, from April 24 to 26.
Other news
E-home.CN parted ways with their Malaysian squad, for reasons including “inability to come to agreement”. The team is now being referred to as MY or Team Malaysia as they continue to search for new sponsors and dominate the Dota 2 SEA region with a record of 13-1 since their establishment on March 1st.
Team Redemption received a permanent ban from Valve on any future tournaments, including The International. The team has stated they will continue to play and compete.
Teams such as MY and Rave have been giving fans hopes of having top professional contenders that will challenge the likes of the favorite top teams in the other regions. With continued success, the Dota 2 SEA region scene can grow and improve.
