The double elimination, best of three format of Defense 5 day 1 began yesterday, set to take place over two days at the JoinDota Studios in Berlin. The four teams – OG, Team Liquid, Alliance and ATN- competed for $77,000 prize pool and the first Defense LAN title.
After The Defense 5 day 1 ended, The Defense 5 finals picked up with the first match in the lower bracket elimination series between ATN and Alliance.
Defense 5 Lower Bracket Round 1
Alliance were able to defeat ATN 2:0 in the Lower Brackets, eliminating the Polish Squad. The first match of the series featured a perfect game by Henrik “AdmiralBulldog” Ahnberg on his famed Nature’s Prophet. The game was over in just 25 minutes with a score of 30:4. The second game was still heavily one sided in favor of Alliance, with Jonathan “Loda” Berg and Gustav “s4” Magnusson taking the show. Alliance eliminated ATN from the event with their victory.
Defense 5 Lower Bracket Finals
Without much a break, Alliance headed into the next series to face Team Liquid. The European squad easily took both games from Alliance. The second game was a complete stomp, as Adrian “FATA-“ Trinks went wild with Lina 15:2:11. Team Liquid’s second victory of 40:17 in 33 minutes eliminated Alliance.

Defense 5 Grand Finals
The last series of The Defense 5 finals was the much anticipated best-of-five match up between Team Liquid and OG. Both teams have been showing tremendous skill and team synergy since their formations following TI5.
Team Liquid destroyed OG in the first game, ending it 21 minutes with a score of 23:3 but OG would dominate the second game and take the victory after 56 minutes. Their win secured a tied series setting everything back to even.
Armed with a Tiny-Io combo, Team Liquid took the third game in the series and the advantage. Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen had an amazing game on Tiny and showed he could rival Johan “BigDaddy” Sundstein on the hero.
The fourth game saw MATUMBAMAN get a fast Abyssal Blade and ended the game with a 28:3:9 score. The victory seemed to come easy for Team Liquid as they seized the championship title and upset OG 3:1.
This is only the 5th time (out of 2.6k times built) that Abyssal Blade has been completed pre-20 min in pro #Dota2
