WESG 2016 Playoffs started out with twelve teams hungering for advancement and ended with four teams left standing in the spotlight.
The day began with Round of 12 – four teams departed early with no prize earnings to show for their efforts.
Team Infamous dismantled Dark Passage in minutes – both times. Their overwhelming victory propelled them forward, fueled by momentum. They then knocked out To.be.or.not.to.be in another 2:0 sweep but were quickly halted by Cloud 9 in the semi finals. Unable to overcome the Danish squad, they fell to the third place decider series and watched Cloud 9 advance to the grand finals.
The two Chinese representatives squared off to become the pride of their nation. DUOBAO Young took the first game off of MAX.Y after a 52 minute ordeal and then eventually secured their win in the third match of the series. They barely stood a chance in the next round where they had to face the imposing Danes and were quickly knocked out of contention.
The Brazilian squad SG e-sports lit a fire under MVP.Revolution – burning them out in the three game series 2:1. Putting up a strong and impressive fight, they took on the fan favorites – Alliance to no avail -falling 2:0 to the Swedes.
Peruvian’s Team Dilecom upset Team Romania in a 2:0 sweep, ending the famed veterans run at the event. While Dilecom were no match for TnC Pro, losing out 2:1 – they did give the Filipino team a run for their money. The newly revamped SEA squad has wow’d the masses with their impressive performances and did so once again, to upset Alliance in a tidy 2:0 victory in order to advance to the Grand Finals.
Dark Passage, MAX.Y, MVP.Revolution and Team Romania will not see a deposit in the bank for their time in China, but are expected to be paid for the qualifiers.
Team DileCom, SG e-sports, DUOBAO Young and To.be.or.not.to.be have walked away with an additional $10,000 each.
