Shanghai Major Qualifiers are already around the corner. The second Dota 2 Major will be held in Shanghai, China March 2nd-6th at Mercedes – Benz Arena with a set $3,000,000 prize pool. The Open Qualifiers will take place January 3rd – 6th with the Regional Qualifiers directly following from the 7th – 10th. Team registration for the Open Qualifiers will begin on December 18th.

While information about the Shanghai Major was first teased and revealed during the Frankfurt Major, Valve has provided hopeful teams and eager fans with the dates regarding the qualifiers for the event.
Details provided by Valve was very limited. Ten days after the rosters are locked for the Shanghai Major, teams will be able to start registering for the Open Qualifiers. The Open Qualifiers will take pace between January 3rd – 6th. The Shanghai Major Qualifiers will follow immediately after, from January 7-10th.
If one assumes the process to be the same as for the Frankfurt Major, the Shanghai Major direct and regional invites should be announced a day or so prior to the Open Qualifiers.
The Shanghai Major Qualifiers, invites, teams
As part of the new Major system, the roster lock was introduced for the Frankfurt Major and will continue for the Shanghai Major. Teams are required to complete their roster registration by December 8th, in order to be eligible for the direct invite or Regional Qualifier invites.
The teams that will be directly invited to the Shanghai Major and its Regional Qualifiers should be revealed on January 2nd. For the Frankfurt Major, teams were announced the day prior. The Shanghai Major Qualifiers will occur between January 7 -10th.
For the Frankfurt Major eight teams – Evil Geniuses, CDEC, LGD Gaming, ViCi Gaming, Vega Squadron, Team Secret, Virtus.Pro and EHOME – were directly invited.
40 teams participated in the Regional Qualifiers – 32 invited and 8 slots reserved for the winners of the Open Qualifiers representing all four regions – NA, EU, China and SEA.
The Shanghai Major Open Qualifiers
The Open Qualifiers will most likely be hosted by FaceIt and Perfect World and will take place between January 3rd -6th. The Open Qualifier registration will open on December 18th.
The winning teams will advance to participate in the Regional Qualifiers, which will take place between January 7 -10th.
Eight teams were expected to advance during the Frankfurt Major Open Qualifiers – Two from each region – into the Regional Qualifiers.
Shanghai Major
The second Dota 2 Major will be held in Shanghai, China at the Mercedes – Benz Arena -an indoor arena located on the former grounds of Expo 2010 in Pudong, Shanghai, China with a seating capacity for 18,000 people. The total prize-pool of $3,000,000 is a fixed amount and Perfect World will be in charge of production
Perfect World and MarsTV had partnered up to organize The Dota 2 Asia Championships (DAC) in January-February 2015, known to some as “The International of the East”. The tournament was set up to be very similar to The International. The starting prize pool was set at $250,000 USD, but through crowd funding of compendium sales, the prize pool reached $3,057,519.
Perfect World also hosted the The International 5 Chinese qualifiers.
