Things are heating up in the Philippines for Dota 2 as the local scene continues to grow and thrive. In a press conference today, MPGL has solidified a partnership deal with Media 5 and Gigabyte for the Season 8. The season is expected to be the biggest and most competitive one to date and will feature eight teams competing for the 1.6 million Php (~$35,000) base prize pool.
Ronald Robins, CEO of Mineski, was once again center stage for the conference as he discussed the history of MPGL and how it has grown into the biggest esports league in the country.
In the question and answer portion, Media 5 was on hand to discuss their role in promoting esports.
Coach Chot Reyes, President of Media 5, said that they “want to go where nobody has been“. Based on the reception and ratings of ESL One Manila, the company will determine if Season 8 will be aired on the network as well.
Yesterday, in another press conference, Media 5 announced that ESL One Manila finals would be broadcast live on TV5, while the rest of the event would be aired on AksyonTV, a TV5 subsidiary.
Media 5 is a major Filipino commercial television network based in Mandaluyong City, Philippines.
