The Kiev Major Open Qualifier details have started to tickle in revealing some big changes from previous iterations. Region locking has officially been added and the South American regional qualifiers will primarily be filled with teams that have earned their place through the open qualifiers. Open qualifiers are around the corner, getting ready to commence March 6th. Regional qualifiers will immediately follow, taking place between March 10-13th.

Some of the Kiev Major Open Qualifier details have already been revealed by Milos Nedeljkovic – Assistant Operations Manager of FaceIT.
The popular gaming platform has been the host to Valve’s open qualifiers for the Internationals and Majors since TI5.
Initially on December 10th when the Kiev Major was announced, it was reported that for the Spring Major Qualifiers, Valve would be breaking the Americas Qualifiers into two distinct regions—North America and South America—and similarly changing the Europe Qualifiers into separate Europe Qualifiers and CIS Qualifiers.
With the separation of regions, no further information was provided as to adjustment of number of teams per region or any regional locks. Many speculated changes would occur following the influx of European teams playing in the Americas qualifiers, initiated by Prodota Gaming.
Questions and conjecture has been laid to rest now. In addition to the 3 out of 5 player rule as criteria for a region, teams physically residing in a location will be permitted to participate in that region.
To clarify:
Teams can play in X region if they are physically located in it.

Furthermore, with the lower amount of competitive South American teams that have adhered to the Spring Major roster lock, up to eight teams from open qualifiers will make their way into the regional qualifiers.
Valve and FaceIT have yet to make any official statement on the details, nor has registration been opened up as of yet.
Open qualifiers are set to take place March 6-9th and Regional Qualifiers on March 10 – 13.
Last week it was announced that Kiev Major had been rescheduled – moving forward one week to April 27-30th.

In the past, StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season 2 hosted CS:GO at the event successfully.
