After 10 thrilling days of competition and 173 games played, the Chinese TI rookies, Wings Gaming, brought the coveted Aegis of Champions back to China, after a spectacular 3:1 victory over Digital Chaos.
The TI6 grand finals may have been played out by two teams that rose to the top through the Regional qualifiers, but the series was none the less transcendent – quintessential showing of what Dota 2 is all about and what passion, determination and hardwork can achieve.
In fact, the entire main event was bursting with some of the most splendid and even flawless games in recent history.

TI6 best plays: Wild Card series
Escape Gaming and EHOME prevailed in the TI6 Wild Card series, as they earned the two remaining spots in the main tournament. Both teams appeared to really step up their game since their last appearances in a tournament and looked to be in prime form.
compLexity and Execration didn’t get the TI6 Wild Card results they were hoping for thus failed to advance into the competition.
Execration came at compLexity Gaming like a bat out of hell and destroyed the North American team in a bloodbath, 40:12. Then in the second game of the series, a Meepo pick for 15 year-old Abed “Abed” Yusop played flawlessly would be compLexity’s demise, as they were overpowered in 26 minutes and knocked out of TI6 contention
While the XctN, the Filipino hopefuls, put up a fight the momentum from their upset over compLexity Gaming quickly fizzled out. The second game was over in 18 minutes and left XctN with not a single kill on the board.

TI6 best plays: Group stage
Group stage day 1
After over 12 hours of back-to-back games, teams were neck to neck, after the first day. Evil Geniuses, LGD Gaming and OG tied for the top position in Group A. In Group B, the race was even tighter, with Newbee, EHOME, Team Secret and Digital Chaos assuming the top place in a four-way tie.
TnC made waves upsetting Wings Gaming in a clean 2:0 sweep, EHOME demonstrated that Wild Card teams are something to be feared, OG are definitely not invincible, LGD proved they can prevail with a stand-in in their lineup.
Both Fnatic and ViCi Gaming.Reborn were unable to find themselves a single victory in the first day of the group stage.
Clinton “Fear” Loomis and Ludwig “zai” Wåhlberg took center stage with their performances. Fear’s Ursa and Drow clearly instilled fear into Na’Vi – boasting a Godlike streak in only 22 minutes. Two extraordinary plays by Zai on Io were clutch performance highlights.
Armed with tenacity and cheeky plays (worth mentioning David “MoonMeander” Tan smoking up and recovering the gem in the enemy fountain), OG looked to be in top shape for the main event.
LGD’s first game of the series was a thrilling 20k gold deficit comeback against OG, courtesy of their always collected and patient approach – wearing down their enemies and their defense.
After taking the first game out from EG in 35 minutes, Wings drafted a surprise Pudge in the second match – a choice that didn’t work out as planned but pleased the audience none-the-less.

Group stage day 2
With games in Group B extending well into the morning hours of Europe, the second day was packed with 14 hours of play. A perfect day for Evil Geniuses and EHOME ushered them both to the top of their respective groups.
EG’s second series against TnC was thrilling from start to finish. Both matches were peppered with kills, excitement and surprises. The first series lasted for 72 minutes, with 115 kills on the board. TnC held on strong for both matches, refusing to yield and winning over the hearts of fans across the world.
After suffering a loss in the first game, Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi’s Huskar ended with a rampage and tied up the series, 1:1 against Wings Gaming.
El Clásico Alliance vs. Na’Vi was one of the most anticipated series of the day. Alliance seemed to have this one in the bag from the start. After taking their first victory, they went for a level one Roshan from the Radiant side, that would give them the Aegis in the first minute.
Na’Vi‘s loss to Alliance might have been a brutal one for fans to witness, but their 2:0 upset over LGD Gaming was one for the books. With LGD attacking their base, Na’Vi’s defense resulted in a team wipe on the Chinese team and a thrilling bounce back to take the game. Their second match was equally exciting, showcasing Dmitry “Ditya Ra” Minenkov’s one HP survival.

Group stage day 3
After three days of nonstop action, in the Group Stage. Eight teams – OG, MVP.Phoenix, Digital Chaos, Wings Gaming, EHOME, Alliance, Evil Geniuses and Newbee – secured themselves a trip to the main stage in the Upper Brackets. Eight teams – TnC Gaming, ViCi Gaming.Reborn, Team Secret, LGD Gaming, Fnatic, Escape Gaming, Na’Vi and Team Liquid – faced elimination in the unforgiving best-of-one Lower Brackets round 1.
Most surprising was EG’s 2:0 loss to Alliance . The Swedish teams’ fate and throne was hanging on by a thread. Forcing a wipe and triple buy back, Alliance would turn the game and claim the victory as viewers counted only 400 HP left on their throne.
Wings Gaming faltered in the first series, giving an incredible amount of hope and hype to Na’Vi as the Ukrainians swept through with a 2:0 victory – the first game ending in only 15 minutes.

TI6 best players :Main Event
Main Event day 1
The first day of The International 6 main event was packed with action. The two best-of-three Upper Bracket series secured both MVP.Phoenix and Wings Gaming a top-six finish at TI6 and at least $905,509 of the prize pool.
The four brutal best-of-one series gave early exits to four teams: ViCi Gaming.Reborn, Team Secret, Escape Gaming and Na’Vi.
Starting out with sheer aggression, the TI6 opener boasted 20 kills in only 12 minutes between MVP.Phoenix and OG. The Korean five melee lineup relying heavily on the RNG PA, Void and Spirit Breaker vs Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi’s Timbersaw seemed to be a questionable decision but with luck and skill paid out in the end giving them the first victory.
Wings Gaming stayed true to their nature – defying the meta and choosing both Pudge and Techies in the series against Digital Chaos.
TnC continued with their incredible performances and executed their draft beautifully. Marc Polo “Raven” Luis Fausto’s Terrorblade would be extremely tanky and top the net-worth charts with 20k gold in only 30 minutes. Continuing on his dominance, Raven would end with a Godlike streak – crushing ViCi Gaming.Reborn’s base and run at TI6.
LGD Gaming had stepped up in the witching hour – something that seems to be a historic trend for the organization and unleashed their fury on Team Secret. Stalling and defending against LGD’s advances, the once European giants crumbled eventually for an early exit.
Na’vi’s journey ended early at the hands of Team Liquid – the always seeming antagonists of LAN events.

Main Event day 2
The second day of The International 6 main event delivered another day of unforgettable matches. The two best-of-three Upper Bracket series secured both EHOME and Evil Geniuses a top-six finish at TI6 and at least $909,365 of the prize pool.
TnC and Digital Chaos caused magnificent upsets eliminating OG and LGD Gaming respectively.
In the first elimination match between Alliance and EHOME, the fortuitous moment came along about 25 minutes in with some key burrow strikes by Ren “ELeVeN” Yangwei’s Sand King. Having turned the tides, EHOME completely trashed Alliance in the next 10 minutes to claim victory. In the second match it would be a four man wipe around minute 27 followed up by a Godlike streak by Wang “old chicken” Zhiyong only minutes later.
The stage was bursting with prestige as the TI5 and TI4 champions locked horns for the battle of the upper brackets. As the two champions battled it out in the second match, Ludwig “zai” Wåhlberg on EG and Damien “kphoenii” Chok would take center stage with their exceptional plays and talent. After 70 minutes, Newbee called GG.
TnC seized the first game from OG in a tremendous upset. Then falling behind into a dark hole of what seemed almost impossible to climb out of with David “MoonMeander” Tan’s Dark Seer and Johan “N0tail” Sundstein’s Tiny -TnC came from behind. 20k in the hole, they went for a ‘GG’ push right before the game hit the 60-minute mark but were unable to claim the victory.

Main Event day 3
The third day of the TI6 Main Event brought otherworldly plays and huge upsets. Two former International champions had been knocked out of TI6 contention. EG and Wings reached Top 3 and were scheduled to face each other in the Upper Bracket Finals.
An unbelievable showing of strength from EG – fitting for the International reigning champions – and the North Americans overpowered EHOME, 2:0. Flawless team coordination, good decision making coming out of PPD and Fear, great clutch saves from zai, superb plays by sumaiL, and UniVeRsE’s instrumental Faceless Void sealed the deal for EG.
Dubbed “the most spectacular Dota 2 game of all time”, the first match of the series ended after 70 minutes and featured an electrifying Mega Creep comeback.

Main Event day 4
Only five teams are left standing after the fourth day of The International 6 Main Event: Wings Gaming, Evil Geniuses, Digital Chaos, MVP.Phoenix, and Fnatic.
DC got off to a good start and managed to come back from a one-game deficit to knock Filipino sensation TnC out of The International 6. Another great display of strength from DC, as the North-American team managed to outdraft and outplay Chinese Juggernauts EHOME in two very one-sided games.
Fnatic convincingly took down Team Liquid, 2:0, after a roller-coaster series and a beautifully orchestrated comeback from a 20k deficit, in the second game.

Main Event day 5
Only three teams were left in the fight for the coveted Aegis of Champions, as the fifth day of The International 6 Main Event came to an end. Wings Gaming advanced to the Grand Finals, after a convincing 2:0 victory over defending champions, Evil Geniuses. Digital Chaos and Evil Geniuses were set in the lower bracket finals.
Yet to drop a single game on the main stage before going up against DC in the fifth round of the Lower Brackets, Fnatic’s winning streak came to a head in their next series.
On the back of superb individual plays and flawless team coordination, Digital Chaos managed to down Fnatic 2:0, to reach Top 3.
EG were unable to make use of their superior laning phases and early game advantage and dropped both games to young Chinese sensations, Wings Gaming – the second match lasting only 23 minutes.

Main Event day 6
TI6 was one of the most entertaining and riveting events in recent memory. Filled with epic comebacks, surprising twists, incredible stories of perseverance and dedication – the matches have brought us to the edge of our seats.
DC spoiled Wings Gaming’s Pudge pick to take the first game of the TI6 Grand Finals. After Wings tied up the series by following up with a win, they took the advantage with a second victory, capitalizing on DC’s execution errors.
In an epic comeback and final match Wings seized the championship title and trophy.

TI6 got off to a phenomenal start with an opening ceremony featuring Lindsey Stirling.

A highly entertaining All-Star Match was stacked with action, kills and surprises.
Two hero releases were announced – Underlord and Monkey King – to usher in a new meta and year for Dota 2.
