Na’Vi has been named the third international team to receive an invitation for the MarsTV Dota 2 League in Shanghai, June 3-7. The team will join Cloud 9, Team Secret and one other Western team yet to be revealed to compete against each other and six Chinese teams for the main event.
MarsTV revealed the news via their Facebook page:
Shortly after announcing the participation of Team Secret, we are now proud to announce Natus Vincere as our third international team to compete at our main event that will take place in Shanghai, China from June 3rd to June 7th. We are honored to have a team of this caliber in our tournament. They are going through a rough patch, but they are still feared and respected by many teams.
MarsTV Dota 2 League Western Teams
Cloud 9 was the first of the Western teams to be invited to the event. Team Secret’s invite came on the heels of their back to back wins at Red Bull Battle Grounds, on May 10, and then at The Summit 3, on May 17.
Chinese teams
MarsTV Dota 2 League was schedule to start on May 7, with eight Chinese teams – Newbee (Defending Champions), LGD Gaming, CDEC, E-HOME, HyperGloryTeam, Invictus Gaming, TongFu, and Vici Gaming, competing to be the four teams to advance to the main event.
However, due to scheduling conflicts, Invictus Gaming and Vici Gaming were not be able to compete in the league’s qualifiers, thus have been directly invited to the MarsTV Dota 2 League main event. They were replaced by Immortal Magneto and DK in the Chinese qualifiers.
LGD and E-Home have secured the first two spots in the league and have qualified for the MarsTV Dota 2 League main event in Shanghai. CDEC Gaming finished third, after a 2-1 victory over Newbee.
The last two spots for the Chinese teams are being held for two teams which will qualify during the Chinese TI5 qualifiers which will be played in a LAN setting, at the Automobile Exhibition Center, in Shanghai starting May 25th, at 04:00 CEST.
MarsTV Dota 2 League
MarsTV announced the upcoming 2015 season of the MarsTV Dota 2 League. The tournament features a base prize-pool of 2 million RMB, approximately $322,000. This is significantly higher than last year’s prize pool of 150,000 RMB. In 2014, the MarsTV Dota 2 League’s winner was Newbee who went through the playoffs undefeated, 5:0, and bested LGD, 2:0, in the grand finals.
MarsTV Dota 2 League Format
With Invictus Gaming and ViCi Gaming receiving direct invites, the MarsTV Dota 2 League main event will feature 10 teams, instead of 8, as it was originally announced. The format has been adjusted to accommodate the 10 teams. Instead of playing in a double-elimination bracket, the teams will be divided into two groups of five and compete in a Round Robin format. The teams that finish last in both groups will be eliminated from the competition, while the remaining eight teams – four from each group, will advance to the single elimination playoffs.
