UPDATE (August 13th):
TI6 final standings, updates and highlights – HERE
The elimination series on the third day of the International 6 bid farewell to the TI3 and TI4 champions in a rather surprising and convincing manner.
Newbee had been invited directly to participate at the event. On the heels of two considerable, record breaking winning streaks, the Chinese team was in prime form and was looking quite fearsome.
Alliance was denied a direct invite following a year of hard work and slow but steady improvement in their results. Classy as always, they held their head high and rolled up their sleeves to once again prove their worth and claim the TI6 EU Regional qualifier spot.
Both teams had taken up their spots in the Upper Brackets following a commendable run in the group stage. Stacked with champions, both teams had high hopes of earning the prestige of being the only two-time Aegis champions. Their dreams were cut short by two pesky antagonists that have emerged from the depths of the Lower Brackets.
Fnatic’s struggles seemed to be left behind in the group stage room, once they hit the main stage. They toppled over Escape Gaming to survive the brutal one-game elimination series and advanced to face Alliance. Continuing on their momentum and with a 180 degree turn around in performance, Fnatic put the final nail in Alliance’s coffin with an astounding two-game sweep.
Team Liquid’s surprising and concerning performances at the event were quickly turned on their head in the Lower Brackets. They have knocked out two former International champions, so far. They knocked out Na’Vi in the brutal death match series and then rebounded from a one-loss deficit to trample all over Newbee, 2:1.
With the TI1, TI3 and TI4 champions knocked out and the TI2 champions – Invictus Gaming – not making an appearance, it is left to Evil Geniuses, the TI5 champions, to try for the double-Aegis title.

Alliance’s run in the Upper Brackets came to an abrupt halt early. Only one day prior, EHOME had overpowered the Swedish team, 2:0 – a defeat that would sting even more after they faced Fnatic. The Malaysian squad had a disappointing performance in the group stage, being seeded them into the brutal best-of-one elimination series right out of the gate. Rising up to the occasion, Fnatic convincingly knocked out Escape Gaming and advanced further into the Lower Brackets.
Alliance started off both of their series doing well. Finding room to breath with pick-offs and efficient farming, the Swedes looked calm and collected. It would be Fnatic’s push power and a favorable big fight for them at the Rosh pit that would propel the Malaysians into motion. Unable to fend them off and deal with the damage coming out of Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung’s Sven, the Swedish team crumbled.
The second match once again saw Alliance looking in control. Favorable fights, pick-offs and Jonathan “Loda” Berg’s farming on Lifestealer gave them the advantage early. On the back of some good chain kills though, Fnatic evened out the game, coming in from behind. The Malaysians then sought an aggressive onslaught that would damage Alliance too much and rallied towards the victory. With that, the TI3 champions were eliminated.

TI6 results, day 3: Newbee vs. Team Liquid
Newbee had the unfortunate luck to find themselves pitted against the TI5 reigning champions – Evil Geniuses, early on. In their first Upper Bracket series, the Chinese team was thrown to the side in a devastating 2:0 sweep. Team Liquid was forced to pay the price of their sub-par performance in the group stage by starting out the main event in the Lower Brackets. They overwhelmed Na’Vi in the do-or-die one-game elimination series to find hope and another day at TI6.
It would take Newbee 22 minutes to put their first kill on the board against Team Liquid. Despite what looked to be an absolute massacre and a lopsided sure-fire victory for Team Liquid, Newbee began to unleash a fury that would create chaos and upheaval. Finding kills, taking favorable team fights and Damien “kphoenii” Chok’s Naga Siren beginning to become quite worrisome for the European Squad – they quickly seized control of the game and the victory in a stunning comeback.
In stark contrast to the first match, the second game of the series would be heavily one-sided again in favor of Team Liquid, but this time without a way for Newbee to counter it. Plowing through the Chinese team, Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen’s Morphling was played perfectly. Allowing only three kills on the board for Newbee, the game was over in 17 minutes..
Newbee’s early game seemed to be shaken up, and the Chinese were falling behind. The Europeans continued to remain focused and determined with MATUMBAMAN’s Anti-Mage starting to spiral out of control. He would eventually end with a perfect game and a 7:0:6 record. Newbee couldn’t deal with the amount of aggression and superior vision coming out from Team Liquid and continued to fall further behind without any answers. Liquid’s victory knocked out the TI4 champions from contention.
