TI6 prize pool distribution changes: First place $8.3 million

Valve has launched the official website for TI6 and included was the TI6 prize pool distribution. This year the first place team is granted 44% of the total prize pool compared to 36% at TI5. At the moment that is a mind blowing $8.3 million championship title prize.

Valve’s launch of the International official website revealed the TI6 prize pool distribution changes.

First place will now be receiving 44% of the total prize pool – that’s $8.6 million for the team that can snatch the Aegis of the Immortal. Last year, at TI5, first place received 36% with Evil Geniuses claiming $6,634,661. To put the prize and percentages in perspective, TI1 winner Na’Vi walked away with a cool $1,000,000 – 62% of the total prize pool.

Like last year, sixteen of the eighteen teams making the journey to Seattle will receive a portion of the jackpot. The two Wild Card teams that will be eliminated on Tuesday, August 3rd will go home with shattered dreams and no monetary reward.

Most of the feedback and response from players and the community has been positive and favorable towards the change. Many speculate the addition of the Majors has played a large part in the changes.

The International 6

This year’s main event will take place at the KeyArena in Seattle, Washington, between August 8th-13th. KeyArena is a multi-purpose arena in Seattle, Washington, with a maximum capacity of over 17,000.

The International 6 prize pool has outpaced The International 5 one from the very beginning. As of July 27th, the total TI6 prize pool has already broken last year’s record, thus becoming the largest in esports history.
