Manila Major dates released, PGL in charge of production

The Manila Major dates have been released. Be sure to mark your calendars for for the next Dota 2 Major scheduled to take place between June 7th – 12th in the Mall of Asia Arena, in Manila, Philippines. The Manila Major will be hosted by PGL and will be the last Major before The International 6, in August.

Valve has released the Manila Major dates. The main event will be hosted by PGL and is scheduled to take place between June 7-12th. The team registration process is now open and the team reshuffles are underway. The rosters will be locked starting with March 27, until after The International 6.

Direct and regional invites are expected to be released at the end of April, however tickets for the main event will go on sale on March 12th.

Qualifiers will start on April 29th with the Open Qualifiers and will conclude on May 6th when all of the regional teams participating will have been determined.

Roster Lock

• The registration will be open until March 27th, before the rosters are locked for the Spring Major.
• The roster will remain locked until the end of The International 6.

• The Manila Major main event will take place between June 7th – 12th in the Mall of Asia Arena, in Manila, Philippines.

Manila Major dates for the qualifiers

The Manila Major qualifiers will begin on April 29th with the Open Qualifiers and conclude on May 6th after the regional teams have been determined.

Open Qualifiers

• Open Qualifiers will take place from April 29th to May 2nd.

Regional Qualifiers

• Regional Qualifiers will take place from May 3rd to May 6th.

Manila Major ticket sales

• Valve has announced that tickets will go on sale here, on March 12th, at 13:00 SGT/06:00 CET.
• The venue has three seating tiers. Tickets will be priced according to the respective seating tier. One person can buy a maximum of 10 tickets.
• ₱200/100/50 (approximately $4.25/$2.13/$1.05) per day for the weekdays, and ₱400/200/100 (approximately $8.50/$4.25/$2.13) per day for the weekend days – including the grand finals.

Dota 2 Majors

Valve originally announced the implementation of the Majors system at the end of April 2015. The concept is believed to be a proper solution to some significant problems in tournament quality and control that had been voiced in recent times.

Over the last five years, The International has become the pinnacle moment for the world of professional Dota. Now the excitement of the biggest event in esports is coming to the Majors, a series of seasonal marquee tournaments, which will take place throughout the year and around the globe. Dota’s newest tradition begins this fall with the Frankfurt Major.

The first Dota Major was held in Frankfurt, Germany, at the Festhalle Messe – a multi-purpose hall with an area of 6,000 square meters, which can accommodate up to 13,500 visitors. Sixteen teams competed for a total prize-pool of $3,000,000, with ESL Gaming in charge of production. OG made history when they took the championship title, becoming the first qualified team to clinch a Valve-sponsored championship title.

The second Dota 2 Major culminated with a spectacular Grand Final, when Team Secret was able to best Team Liquid, 3:1. The event was held in Shanghai, China, at the Mercedes-Benz Arena – an indoor arena located on the former grounds of Expo 2010 in Pudong, Shanghai, China, with a seating capacity for 18,000 people. The total prize-pool was fixed at $3,000,000 and Perfect World was in charge of production.

The third and final major to take place before TI6 will be hosted by PGL between June 7-12th at the Mall of Asia Arena, in Manila, Philippines.

The Mall of Asia Arena is an indoor arena within the SM Mall of Asia complex, in Manila, Philippines. A rather new, state-of-the-art building, the arena has only been inaugurated in 2012 and has a seating capacity of 16,000 for sporting events, and a full house capacity of 20,000.

In light of the abounding issues that were evident and negatively impacted the Shanghai Major from a production and hosting standpoint, Valve has vowed to be more involved in the upcoming Majors.
