One of the favorite storylines of the Shanghai Major has come to an end. In the uprising of the SEA region in the second major, Fnatic went head to head with MVP.Phoenix for the honor and bragging rights of being the only SEA remaining in the top four.
Both SEA teams arrived at the event in top form and gave remarkable matches with stand out performances. Fnatic’s drafting has clearly improved under the guidance of their coach Joel Chan “XtiNcT” Zhan Leong formly from Orange and teammates of Wai Pern “Net” Lim, Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung and Chong “Ohaiyo” Xin Khoo. Fnatic’s appearance signified a tremendous improvement from their recent performances.
MVP.Phoenix exploded once again out of nowhere. The Korean squad had been low on the radar they made their presence known in a dominant and undeniable manner in the Shanghai Major. With a stellar run, they continue their journey in the top 4.
The Shanghai Major is starting to wind down as the fourth day is already underway. The eliminations continued early this morning in an All American showdown between Evil Geniuses and compLexity Gaming. The TI5 championship team cleaned up the lower brackets, 2:0, as they brutally fought their way to advance.
compLexity was the eleventh team to drop out of the event.
Fnatic eliminated erases twelve teams from contention.
Shanghai Major elimination: Lower Brackets
MVP.Phoenix vs. Fnatic
The first game of the series was all about MVP.Phoenix as they were able to run over Fnatic with ease in 34 minutes. Kim “QO”Seon-yeop’s spectre was critical for their success along with the chrono’s coming out from Lee “FoREV” Sang-don’s Faceless Void. A perfect ravage by Chong “Ohaiyo” Xin Khoo wasn’t enough for the Malaysian based squad to turn the tides and gain an advantage or victory.
The second game was a whirlwind of a roller coaster ride. The beginning was evenly matched and while Fnatic started to pull ahead with a lead, MVP.Phoenix struck back and seized their opportunity to gain the advantage. Once QO got his radiance with Spectre, the Korean squad turned around the entire game. Shutting down Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung on Ursa became easier as did their victory at that point.
Shanghai Major results: MVP.Phoenix 2:0 Fnatic. MVP.Phoenix continues in the Lower Brackets, after getting Fnatic eliminated from the event.
