The Defense #5 welcomes the final team to the lineup. Team Alternate will fill the last spot in the upcoming The Defense #5 LAN playoffs being held in Berlin, Germany December 5-6th. The Polish squad will join Team Liquid, OG and Alliance, competing for the $77,000 prize pool and the first Defense Championship title in over one year.

The Defense #5 will take place December 5th & 6th in a double elimination, best of three format with four teams – OG, Team Liquid, Alliance and ATN- competing for $77,000 prize pool.
Team ATN have been announced to be the final contender for the Defense #5. The Polish squad was extended the invitation after Vega Squadron had withdrawn due to scheduling conflicts with Global eSports Cup’s LAN finals. The CIS team was tied with 4 Clovers & Lepricon for the qualifying spot. 4CL also were unable to attend the event due to the same scheduling conflicts.
Team ATN had participated in Group A of The Defense #5, advancing to the second stage of the event and placing fourth. The Polish squad’s run had been impressive as hey were able to seize games from both Virtus.Pro and Team Empire.
The Defense #5
In September, The Defense was reinstated after a long hiatus when Na’Vi was crowned champions in The Defense #4 in July 2013.
Bringing back the event included a scheduled LAN playoffs at the JoinDota headquarters in Berlin and an increased prize pool starting at $75,000. As of December 2, the prize pool is reported to be at $77,833 as 25% of proceeds from all purchases of the DotaTV ticket and item bundle were added to the prize pool.
The LAN playoffs are being held at the JoinDota headquarters office in Berlin, Germany. The last event that was hosted at the site was D2CL. Team Empire had claimed the D2CL title after sweeping through ViCi Gaming 3:0 to claim their second title in less than one month.
Evolution of The Defense
The Defense #1
The first iteration of the The Defense occurred in March 2012. 24 teams participated, battling for the €10,000 prize pool. Na’Vi’s star studded roster were able to clinch the first championship title after defeating Quantic Gaming 3:2.

The Defense #2
compLexity Gaming were able to best Mousesports 3:1 in the second season of The Defense in August 2012.

3rd place: ~$1,843/€1,500 – Counter Logic Gaming
The Defense #3
In March 2013, Team Virtus.Pro defeated Fnatic 3:2 in the best-of-five Grand Finals, seizing the title and a portion of the considerably larger prize pool.
1st place: $10,000 – Virtus.pro
2nd place: $5,000 – Fnatic
3rd place: $3,500 – Team Dignitas
4th place: $1,500 – Team Liquid
The Defense #4
The last version of the event was played in July 2013 for a prize pool of $25,000. The tournament was won by Na’Vi after they conquered Kaipi 3:1.
