ESL One Genting 2017 has confirmed that their third and final team – Wings Gaming will compete in the big tournament in the highlands.
Known for their unpredictable playstyle, vast hero pool and unconventional picks, Wings Gaming are one of the most exciting teams to watch and they’ll surely have a few surprises up their sleeves. And should they end up facing Digital Chaos at any stage of the tournaments, we’ll be in for the first TI6 grand finals rematch of the season!
Wings Gaming are already outshining their opponents and proving they are still on top. They seized their first championship title of the new season less than two weeks ago at Nanyang Dota 2 Championships – Cruise Cup #1.
The Chinese favorites are expected to have a packed schedule leading up to Boston Majors with an invite to BTS Summit 6 and Northern Arena BEAT Invitational – both scheduled to take place in November.
ESL One Genting
In July ESL One announced their return to SEA region with ESL One Genting to be held in The Genting Highlands resort area in Malayisa. The event is scheduled to take place January 6-8, 2017 with eight of the best teams competing for the $250,000 prize pool.
It was no surprise that the event being held in Malaysia would extend a warm invitation to one of the region’s most powerful and famous teams – Fnatic as the first invite. Digital Chaos landed the second invite while Wings rounds them out.
The remaining five teams will qualify to participate through various events.
The newest of the ESL tournament settings is located in The Genting Highlands resort area of Malaysia, about one hour from Kuala Lumpur.
The event will take place at the Arena of the Stars. AOS is a part of a resort that includes multiple hotels, amusement parks, casinos & nightclubs that also features a 6,000 person capacity amphitheater.
Wings Gaming
Wings Gaming did not make any changes heading into the Fall Major 2016 season. The TI6 championship team had decided to keep their roster intact.
From unknowns to infamous in the course of one year, the Chinese stars soared above the rest to bring a tale of comradery, innovation and passion to the stage.
Formed in August 2015, the Chinese then team made a clean sweep over Team Liquid, 3:0, in the Grand Finals of ESL One Manila. They walked with their first championship title as a team and the $100,000 first place prize.
The team was directly invited to the Manila Major where they had a disappointing finish taking 13-16th place. Their next premier LAN event – Nanyang Dota 2 Championships Season 2 brought back to the forefront the infamous drafting and strategies that Wings became known for and an astounding second place finish.
They then amazed fans around the world once again when they outplayed OG 3:1 in the grand finals of The Summit 5 for the trophy and title.
Their greatest accomplishment being TI6.
By upsetting the TI5 champions – Evil Geniuses and sending them to the lower brackets, Wings Gaming had become the first team to advance to the Grand Finals and secure themselves a top two finish overall. They overpowered Digital Chaos 3:1 for a spectacular finish and crowning achievement.
