The newly released TI6 compendium updates are bursting with fan interaction: the Fantasy Challenge, Player Card Packs, Tournament Predictions. The TI6 Virtual Reality spectator experience will allow Dota 2 fans to fully immerse themselves in the action.
UPDATE (August 13th):
TI6 final standings, updates and highlights – HERE
Five days before the TI6 Wild Card series kicks off, Valve has released the TI6 compendium updates, bringing forth a plethora of opportunities for fans to become involved in the event.
The Fantasy Challenge, collectible Player Card Packs and the popular Tournament Predictions all give fans a chance to get their hands in the mix.
But there’s more.
Not ones to pass on opportunity when it knocks, Valve will be bringing TI6 to life for those who cannot attend the event, through the TI6 Virtual Reality feature made possible by the VR Hub and newly released HTC Vive.
TI6 Compendium updates
TI6 Player Cards
The TI player cards that were sorely missed by many last year have returned. Each TI6 compendium owner has received 15 TI6 player card packs.
Each pack contains five player cards including at least one Silver or Gold card. Silver and Gold cards are not only considered rare, but include random stat bonuses that are added to the player’s fantasy score.
The TI6 player cards are marketable and tradeable and can be recycled for player dust. Ten dust points can be exchanged for a new player card pack.
Battle Pass owners can collect the TI6 player cards to create their fantasy teams. Gold and Silver edition cards have been thrown into the mix as rare items and will provide a boost to the lineups.
Fantasy Challenge
TI6 Compendium owners are also able to participate in the Fantasy Challenge.
Selecting a fully functioning roster comprised of the typical five roles, TI6 Battle Pass owners can compete in the Fantasy Challenge daily.
Each TI6 player card will score fantasy points based on the player’s performance that day. At the end of the event, Battle Points will be awarded based on the number of points scored relative to the others in the community.
TI6 Predictions
Predicting the progression of teams through the tournament brackets will earn TI6 Compendium owners more Battle Points for all correct predictions during the main event.
As simple as selecting the winning team per series, battle points will be earned for correct predictions. A perfect bracket awards 50 Battle Levels.
Selections can be made between August 6th 08:00 GMT/22:00 CEST through August 8th at 18:00 GMT/20:00 CEST.
Select Hero, Team, Player, and Tournament Predictions during the tournament through the in-game Battle Predictions to earn more achievements.
TI6 Virtual Reality spectator experience
Back in February, at the Vision Summit 2016, Gabe Newell gave everyone in attendance a free HTC Vive. The gesture was the first introduction to Valve’s involvement and course with Virtual Reality.
Two months later, HTC Vive gave a new dimension to esports spectating through a video released by Valve. The replay of a final match between Evil Geniuses and MVP.Phoenix from the Shanghai Major was given new life in the Virtual Reality device, showing various ways to enhance the viewer experience – a tease and glimpse for what was to come.
Now, arriving just days before the big event, the TI6 compendium was updated to include the TI6 Virtual Reality spectator experience.
Vive owners can watch live matches and replays in headset – alone, with friends or the community.
Heroes take on life size proportions and headset owners can jump right into the middle of the mini map and action. Changing the camera height and perspective will change the entire game.
To be a part of the TI6 Virtual Reality experience, install the Dota VR Hub, select Dota 2 in your steam library and under the DLC section, click the box to enable the Dota VR Hub.
A list of FAQ regarding the Dota VR Hub can be found HERE – including the system requirements.
Spectator chat
The in-game spectator chat now has increased capacity – supporting large numbers of viewers in a single channel. The spectator chat channel can now be accessed in the new Live Game tab.
