The new Spring Major team registration has been announced by Valve. Registration still includes two phases and begins now with the first phase – the roster drop – until December 27th. Adding new players will take place between December 28-January 9th. The substitute rule has not been altered as many expected and there will be one more registration before TI7. The roster lock will be in place until the end of The September Major.
The Boston Major has just ended and Valve has announced details and dates for the Spring Major team registration period.
This time around, there will still be a two step or phase registration period including drop phase and add phase.
Teams have now until December 27th to release players from their current rosters for the upcoming season. This season, players must confirm their participation with their current team. Any players that are still remaining on the team after December 27th at 0:00 PST are automatically dropped from the team.
New players can then be added to the roster between December 28-January 9th (two weeks) – locking on January 9th at 00:00 PST.
Invites can be issued to any eligible player not already locked in to another team.
Like last season, teams will no longer need to issue Substitute Player invites during the invitation period. “Any team that qualifies for a Major event will be able to issue a Substitute Player invite to any player not participating in the Major once the qualifiers for that event are done”.
Last season fans and players were concerned about the potential and suspected abuse of this rule – with teams using it to gain advantage or address issues easier. By adding the new player to the substitute role, they were then able to swap the new player and a current active member into opposite roles – changing their roster mid season with no consequences of losing their spot.
In addition, Valve did make exceptions for both Invictus Gaming.Vitality and LGD.Forever to have two substitutes participate in the event due to visa issues on the teams.
The roster lock will stay in effect until after Spring Major if they aim to be directly invited or receive a regional qualifier invite.
Spring Major team registration
In order to be considered for an invitation, all teams must first register at the website. Teams will have the option to register active members. Substitutes are still no longer required to be registered and teams will now have the option to use any players not attending the event as a substitute.
Registering a team
All teams will need to sign up in order to be eligible for an invitation. The roster that is registered through this process is the one that will be considered official by Valve. The registration form will allow the manager to invite the team members and manage the team roster.
Invitations to a team
Players will be able to accept, decline and view their invitations to teams. Once players have accepted the invitation to join a team, they become part of the official roster, and changes cannot be made until after the Fall Major.
Players will be released from or leave the current roster until September 4th.
Invitations may neither be issued nor accepted after September 18th, 12:00AM PDT.
Team Rosters
Players and fans are able to search for a specific team and have access to a list of all the registered players. All rosters are made public as soon as a player accepts the invitation.
