The first day of Shanghai Major elimination series has drawn to an end. CDEC have been knocked out of contention by Newbee. The TI5 runner up team is the fourth squad to be eliminated from the event. Newbee will join Alliance, LGD Gaming, EHOME, compLexity Gaming and Virtus.Pro in the Lower Brackets, battling it out for the chance to survive again tomorrow. The Shanghai Major will continue tomorrow with two more Upper Bracket quarterfinals. OG will go up against Team Secret at 03:00 CET.
The first day of the Shanghai Major main event came to an end after approximately 17 hours. The last Shanghai Major elimination series of the day wrapped up at around 02:30 Shanghai time. Some of the talent and staff have worked, however, for more than 19 hours straight.

The night saw CDEC eliminated by Newbee after a game that lasted for more than one hour. The series between the two Chinese teams was very close for much of the start of the game with back and forth swings. Newbee was able to outplay the TI5 runner up team by the end and seized the chance to continue in the Shanghai Major for at least one more day.
The Main Event was kicked off with the Upper Bracket matches between Alliance and Team Liquid, followed by MVP.Phoenix vs. LGD Gaming. Team Liquid and MVP.Phoenix will continue through the Upper Brackets, while Alliance and LGD have dropped to the Lower Brackets to play another round of best-of-one series, tomorrow.
Team Archon was the first team to be eliminated from the Shanghai Major.
Team Spirit were the second team to be bumped out. VG was the third, followed by CDEC. Both VG and CDEC were directly invited to the Shanghai Major.
Newbee joins Alliance, LGD Gaming, EHOME, compLexity Gaming and Virtus.Pro in the Lower Brackets tomorrow.
The Main Event will continue tomorrow with the Upper Bracket quarterfinals: OG vs. Team Secret at 03:00 CET, followed by Evil Geniuses vs. Fnatic. The event will then move into the Lower Brackets for another round of best-of-one series, where four more teams will be eliminated.

Newbee vs. CDEC
The last series of the day pitted two Chinese teams against each other. Newbee secured first blood. The game was very evenly matched with an overall even laning phase and early game with slight swings in advantage. About 50 minutes into the game, Newbee were able to take the lead and hold on to it. Chen “Hao” Zhihao had a fantastic game on Phantom Lancer and overall the team had good coordination and control.
Shanghai Major results: Newbee 1:0 CDEC. Newbee continues in the Lower Brackets for another best-of-one elimination series, while CDEC was eliminated from the event.
The Shanghai Major main event
The Shanghai Major main event will take place between March 2nd-6th, at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, in Shanghai, China. Viewers and visitors are in for dawn to dusk action. The Grand Finals will take place on Sunday, March 6th.

Format
Sixteen teams will play a double-elimination bracket.
Eight teams (top two teams of each of the four groups) will start the main event in the Upper Bracket. Eight teams (bottom two teams of each of the four groups) will start the main event in the Lower Bracket.
All the Upper Bracket match-ups will be best-of-three series.
The first two rounds of the Lower Bracket matches will be best-of-one elimination series. The following rounds will be best-of-three elimination series.
The Shanghai Dota Major Grand Finals will be best-of-five series, with no winners’ advantage.
