SG esports won the hearts and respect of all during the SA Kiev Major qualifiers.
Their history making victory gives them the bragging rights as the first Brazilian team to compete in a Valve event.
This was the first time that South America had their own region – giving the region a way to mature and spark competition, and aiding a local team to compete on the big stage. Eight teams had qualified for the regionals through open qualifiers – as only two teams were eligible to be invited based on stability and participation in minor events. SG esports was one of those two.
Despite the direct invite, the Brazilian team was not considered to the be favorites of the region with teams such as Infamous and Not Today competing.
Holding their head high and hopes on their sleeve, the team went with an astounding 8:1 record in the group stage.
They swept through their first opponents – Infamous 2:0 before being dropped by Not Today in the upper bracket finals. The team were not phased and bested Midas Club elite to re-emerge into the grand finals and exact their revenge on Not Today with a 2:1 victory.
Their win secured them a place among the best at the Kiev Major.
