KeyTV has announced the six directly invited teams that will compete in the upcoming Nanyang Dota 2 Championship, scheduled to take place between October 26 and November 1, at the Suntec Convention & Event Center, in Singapore. The organizers have decided to designate one of the slots originally intended for a NA team to a Chinese one, after Evil Geniuses declined the invitation, due to scheduling conflict.
Fnatic, Virtus.Pro, Team Secret, ViCi Gaming, LGD Gaming, and CDEC have received direct invites to the Nanyang Dota 2 Championship, the biggest Dota 2 LAN tournament ever held in Singapore, with a base prize pool of $200,000.
According to the format details released on July 13th, one of the six direct invite slots was intended for a NA team. After Evil Geniuses declined the invitation, the Nanyang Dota 2 Championship organizers, KeyTV, “have decided to replace the NA direct invite slot with a Chinese team based on recent TI5 results.”
In a statement made available on the Nanyang Dota 2 Championship Facebook page, Evil Geniuses explain the reasons for declining the invite:
Unfortunately we won’t be attending Nanyang because the travel schedule conflicts with other events that we have accepted. Adding an additional LAN to our calendar doesn’t leave us with enough time to adequately prepare for all of them. We want to provide the best games for our fans. We’re very sorry we won’t get to meet our fans in Singapore, it’s a place none of us have been to and a place we would very much like to visit. We hope there’s more opportunities in the future.
The tournament will kick off with four regional qualifiers, expected to start in September. The winners will receive invites to attend the LAN finals scheduled to take place between October 26th and November 1st, in Singapore. The four qualified teams will join the six invited teams.
