The Manila Major standings are in after the last four teams competed in the upper bracket preliminaries! The second day of the Manila Major began with the Upper Brackets series between Digital Chaos and Newbee, followed by LGD and Fnatic. Newbee and Fnatic have advanced in the Upper Brackets, while Digital Chaos and LGD Gaming have dropped to the Lower Brackets, where they compete in the elimination round 2. Four teams will be eliminated later today in the brutal Lower Brackets. Team Liquid will face compLexity Gaming at 11:40 CEST, in the first match-up of the elimination series.
The second day of the main event the Manila Major standings have revealed Newbee and Fnatic as securing a top six finish with a guaranteed minimum of $202, 000 prize.
With the crowd going wild in the background, the series have continued to provide sensational games and gripping moments. All of the teams in the upper brackets have shown they are more than deserving of a top placement in the end. Flashes of brilliance, displays of tenacity, fortitude and heart were all prevalent from each of the teams.
Newbee has continued to remain an unstoppable force. Going into the playoffs the Chinese team had a perfect record in the group stage and a 20 game winning streak. Digital Chaos were able to take one game off of the Chinese favorites, showing their long term potential and talent from a team only just formed.
Fnatic’s incredible turn around from Shanghai Major has served them well to turn around the games, land clutch performances and become a championship caliber team. With some of the most incredible plays by DJ, the crowd has found a new hero to cheer for. LGD’s patience and ability to hold back, take objectives and remain focused and poised continue to be a key factor in how they prevail over and over but wasn’t enough to overpower Fnatic.
The Manila Major standings: Upper Brackets
Four of the eight teams in the Upper Brackets have competed in the second day of the Manila Major. Digital Chaos, Newbee, LGD and Fnatic went head to head in the efforts to be the first teams to advance further into the Upper Brackets and secure a top 6 finish at the third Dota 2 Major.
Digital Chaos vs. Newbee
First game Newbee dominated the laning stage as Rasmus “MiSeRy” Filipsen on Chen had barely made one gank. Chen “Hao” Zhihao had a perfect game on Lifestealer and Zhang “Mu” Pan had a stellar performance. A great fight at the bottom rune shot the Chinese forward even more, making it impossible for Digital Chaos to turn the tides. Newbee easily took the first match in the series.
The second game Digital Chaos struck back in a very decisive and strong manner. Just out of the laning phase, Digital Chaos took the lead and snowballed to the end. The team showed some flashes of brilliance and great skills as they shattered Newbee’s perfect score at the event and their 20 game winning streak. Digital Chaos tied up the series and forced a deciding third game.

Third game Digital Chaos needed to win the early game with their lineup up, but were unable to grab that advantage then and continued to slip behind as Newbee grew stronger. Newbee had shut down the Dragon Knight early and Hu “Kaka” Liangzhi on Phoenix made so much space for them to farm and build up. With a convincing win the Chinese team seized the match and series win.
Manila Major standings: Digital Chaos 1:2 Newbee. Newbee advance in the Upper Brackets, while Digital Chaos drop to the elimination series in the Lower Brackets.
LGD Gaming vs. Fnatic
LGD started out the first game in the series really strong although it was Fnatic that would take the slight lead. All of LGD’s early smoke ganks were perfect and they looked like a well oiled machine. A big fight around minute 16 would further LGD’s dominance and give them the moment to propel forward with a substantial lead. In 31 minutes they sealed the first win in a convincing manner.
The second game Fnatic came back to draft a Medusa and Terrorblade, an unconventional pick for the Malaysian team and the first appearance for TB in the event. The game was intense and back and forth swings littered the graphs. Fnatic took a few beautiful engagements and great team fights, keeping the pressure on LGD Gaming. Alchemist started to get incredibly farmed for LGD, evening things out and turning the pressure onto Fnatic in return. After two back to back incredible team fights in favor of Fnatic, they took the Roshan and regained their lead and momentum and seized the base. Their victory tied up the series 1:1 and forced a third game.

The third match of the series LGD Gaming took the early lead. Djardel Jicko B. “DJ” Mampusti’s black hole around minute 14 brought the game to even for Fnatic. LGD Gaming continued to make great decisions in items and team fights in order to compensate for their disadvantage in lead and late game. Unbelievable initiation and plays by DJ made him the MVP of the match. Coming from behind, Fnatic secured the victory in the most thrilling and fantastic clutches.

(868 comments)Honestly, DC is looking more and more like a tier 1 team. They still have to improve, but the potential was clearly visible at the major.

(868 comments)Chuan is getting skinnier on every pic he takes. I just recently read that he was a basketball player and an injury was the reason behind him getting fat. Such a nice guy, all the best to him and Newbie
