coL undefeated, Wheel Whreck features first female player to advance through Kiev Major NA Open Qualifiers

The first round of the Kiev Major NA Open Qualifiers has come to an end. compLexity Gaming and Wheel Whreck have secured their spots in the regional qualifiers after a coming out ahead of their peers. Two more teams will advance. The second round of Open Qualifiers starts today, March 8th.

compLexity Gaming and Wheel Whreck While Whistling secured a spot in the regional qualifiers after coming out on top in the Kiev Major NA Open Qualifiers.

compLexity Gaming had a flawless passage through the first set of open qualifiers – ending undefeated surging over Team Red and The Big Egos.

The North American based team were thrust into the open qualifiers as Antonio “canceL” Mihai stepped down from active roster. He was then replaced by Eric “747” Dong.

Marielle ‘Layla’ Louise will be the first female to be competing in a Valve Major regional qualifiers. The Canadian has been playing support with the team since early January.

Wheel Whreck While Whistling had to fight through their last series against the famed Vegetables Esports Club – otherwise known as the casters stack. Veggies had taken the first match of the series with relative ease, but Wheel Whreck came back to claim the second match in only 24 minutes. The deciding game was a whopping 50 minutes long with the pivotal moment being about 30 minutes in. The casters stack then dropped and never regained their lead.

compLexity Gaming and Wheel Whreck will go up against Team Freedom, Team NP, Team Onyx and two other teams still to be determined, in the Kiev Major NA Regional Qualifiers, scheduled to take place between March 11-12.

The Kiev Major will be held in Kiev, Ukraine, between April 27-30th, at National Palace of Arts, with a set $3,000,000 prize pool. Sixteen teams will compete at the main event hosted by PGL.

Kiev Major Open Qualifiers

Much like for the previous year’s Majors, there will be two opportunities for teams to compete in the Open Qualifiers for the Kiev Major. Two rounds of Open Qualifier will be hosted: the first Open Qualifier will take place on the 6th and 7th of March, while the second Open Qualifier will follow on the 8th and 9th of March. Teams are able to register and participate in both sets of events.
