The Kiev Major NA Open Qualifiers teams are getting ready to go head to head in the brutal best-of-one series. The first of the Kiev Major NA Open Qualifiers kicks off shortly, at 17:00 CT /0:00 CET, with barely over 100 registered teams. There will be two separate opportunities for teams to contend for one of the six spots available in the Regional Qualifiers.
With the Kiev Major announcement, Open Qualifiers for each region were added to the mix, giving eight teams (two from each region) that were not directly invited to the event or its Regional Qualifiers the opportunity to try out their luck. Kiev Major Open Qualifiers teams will compete to advance into the Regional Qualifiers.
Valve has partnered up with FaceIT to host the Kiev Major NA Open Qualifiers. All the information on notable contenders, schedule and streams is wrapped up below.
For the purpose of these qualifiers, regions have been locked – requiring teams to have 3/5 of their players from the selected region or to be physically present in said region. For NA the region is defined as: United States of America, Canada, and Mexico.
The Kiev Major NA Open Qualifiers teams that win will advance to the Regional Qualifiers, which will take place between March 10-13th.
The Kiev Major will be held between April 27-30th, at National Palace of Arts in Kiev, Ukraine, with a set prize-pool of $3,000,000. Sixteen teams will compete in the main event hosted by PGL and Valve.

Kiev Major NA Open Qualifiers teams – notable contenders
Some of the Kiev Major Open Qualifiers teams were not directly invited to the Regional Qualifiers due to roster changes or simply did not make the cut for the already stacked regional list. Many notable teams were left to qualify in the Kiev Major Open Qualifiers.
compLexity Gaming was thrust into the open qualifiers as Antonio “canceL” Mihai stepped down from active roster. He was then replaced by Eric “747” Dong. Since then the team went on to take second place at Elimination Mode 3.0 and have high hopes and expectations to land one of the open spots for regionals.
Mid January, FIRE was reformed yet again by Brian “FLUFFNSTUFF” Lee, including Tyler “TC” Cook, Braxton “Brax” Paulson, Bryant “WhiteBeard” Lehwald – all who had previously been on various iterations of the team in past. They competed in KOD League Season IV taking third place shortly after formation.
Wheel Whreck was originally formed at the end of 2014 with their first performance being in the Battle of America, in which they defeated compLexity Gaming. The team went through a a few more months until May 2015 when they took 5-10th place at The International 2015: Americas Qualifiers before disbanding. After the roster lock in January 2017, the team was reformed and includes original member Erik “DurpDurp” Kamerling alongside Mexican player Jesús “Ifrit” Valencia and Khanh “KvH” Huynh.
The famed ‘caster’ team – Vegetables Esports Club will be making a run for it in the NA qualifiers. In Boston Major Open Qualifiers, they were edged out by Prodota Gaming who swept through them 2:0 in the finals to advance to the regionals. The team now consists of Ben “Merlini” Wu, Quinn “CC&C” Callahan, Austin “Capitalist” Walsh, Wilson “Fronz” Teng and William “Blitz” Lee. Their last official match was in October for the Boston Majors.
Team Red was originally invited to the Kiev Major NA open qualifiers but were dropped the following day due to roster changes. Led by Daniel “Bloody Nine” Foster, the team also includes Andrew “Jenkins” Jenkins and caster Alan “RyuUboruZ” Andersen.

Kiev Major NA Open Qualifiers schedule
Much like for the previous Majors, there will be two opportunities for teams to compete in the Kiev Major NA Open Qualifiers. Two rounds of Open Qualifiers will be hosted – the first one will take place between March 6-7th, while the second one is set for March 8-9th. Teams are able to register and participate in both sets of events.
Teams that didn’t sign up on time and solo players will be able to sign-up 30 minutes before the tournament starts if there are available slots left. All teams will be able to register five players and two stand-ins which they will be able to use in the Closed Qualifiers. Each team will only be able to use five selected players throughout the Kiev Major Open Qualifiers.
