The WESG EU LAN finals have come to an exciting conclusion – bestowing the Danish team Imperial another title and notch on their belt. The roster has been together as Danish Bears since June 2016 when Jon “13abyKnight” Andersen replaced Slovenian player Jure “Pingvincek” Plešej -making the team a full Danish squad. Only weeks later they were picked up by Imperial Gaming.
Imperial took second in their group – tied with Alliance with a 3:1 record, but seeded second due to their loss to the Swedish team. Their placement put them in the first round of the playoffs to battle it out with the French team Que La Famille for one of the four remaining spots to head to China. After a three game series, Imperial bested Sébastien “7ckingMad” Debs and his Frenchmen and moved on to face the second Ukrainian team Ne Ru. The Danes came out on top 2:1 and advanced further to take on the local favorites and star packed team – Ukraine.
Making a 2:0 sweep through the Ukraines, in what seemed to be two fairly easy games for them, they overpowered the Swedish mix Horde 2:0 for the championship title.
Horde had their own thrilling course in the event. Quickly becoming fan favorites, the Swedish team with Joakim “Akke” Akterhall and led by Linus “Kefka” Bleckert took the first place in their group with an undefeated 4:0 record. Being seeded into the second round – they knocked down Team Romania 2:1 in an intense series and then upset the new Alliance roster with a 2:0 sweep to advance to the grand finals.
Alliance, Horde, Ukraine, Ne Ru, Team Romania, Fantastic Five, Imperial and Comanche will head East to Shanghai for the main event and $1.5 million prize pool scheduled for December.
Twenty qualified national teams from from 15 different countries around Europe and CIS have gathered at Stereo Plaza in Kiev, Ukraine between October 6 – 9th. Only eight teams advanced to the main event featuring a $1,500,000 prize pool in China during the month of December.
