The new Fall Major team registration has been announced by Valve. Registration now includes two phases and begins now with the first phase – the roster drop – until September 4th. Adding new players will take place between September 4-18th. Along with the new two step process, several other changes have been implemented. The roster lock will be in place until the end of The Fall Major.
The International 6 has just ended and Valve has already announced changes to and dates for the Fall Major team registration period.
As the dust settles on The International, and thoughts turn towards the next cycle of the competitive Dota 2 season, it’s time for teams and players to select their battle companions for the next Dota 2 Major. With that in mind, we’ve updated the Dota 2 Major Registration process to adjust several aspects of the roster lock system.
This time around, there will be a two step or phase registration period including drop phase and add phase.
Teams have 17 days (now until September 4th) to release players from their current rosters for the upcoming season. This is an active process unlike previous seasons where the entire team was automatically dropped. Therefore players must leave the team or the management needs to remove any players that will not continue competing with the team. Any players that are still remaining on the team after September 4th are automatically locked in to the team.
New players can then be added to the roster between September 4-18th (two weeks) – locking on September 18th at 12:00AM PDT.
Invites can be issued to any eligible player not already locked in to another team.
In addition, teams will no longer need to issue Substitute Player invites during the invitation period. “Any team that qualifies for a Major event will be able to issue a Substitute Player invite to any player not participating in the Major once the qualifiers for that event are done”.
The roster lock will stay in effect until after Fall Major if they aim to be directly invited or receive a regional qualifier invite.
Fall Major team registration
In order to be considered for an invitation, all teams must first register at the website. Teams will have the option to register active members. Substitutes are no longer required to be registered and teams will now have the option to use any players not attending the event as a substitute.
Registering a team
All teams will need to sign up in order to be eligible for an invitation. The roster that is registered through this process is the one that will be considered official by Valve. The registration form will allow the manager to invite the team members and manage the team roster.
Invitations to a team
Players will be able to accept, decline and view their invitations to teams. Once players have accepted the invitation to join a team, they become part of the official roster, and changes cannot be made until after the Fall Major.
Players will be released from or leave the current roster until September 4th.
Invitations may neither be issued nor accepted after September 18th, 12:00AM PDT.
Team Rosters
Players and fans are able to search for a specific team and have access to a list of all the registered players. All rosters are made public as soon as a player accepts the invitation.
FAQ: Fall Major team registration – new roster lock process
Valve has provided answers to some of the most commonly asked questions regarding the roster lock, roster invitations and registration for the Manila Major.
UPDATED: I REGISTERED MY TEAM FOR LAST SEASON. DO I NEED TO REGISTER IT AGAIN?
Your team will be saved from the previous season. During the first phase—the drop period—you can remove players from your team. After the drop period is over, you can invite players to your team until you get a full roster of five players.
UPDATED: WHEN DOES REGISTRATION OPEN?
The drop period is currently open until September 4th. After that period you won’t be able to remove players from your team anymore, but you’ll be able to add new players to your team to a maximum of five.
UPDATED: WHEN WILL ROSTERS BE LOCKED?
Rosters will be locked September 18th 12:00AM PDT, and will remain locked until after the Fall Major.
HOW DOES A PLAYER BECOME LOCKED TO A TEAM?
First, the administrator of a team issues Member invites to players. Then these players can review their invites and choose to accept one of them. Once they’ve done so, the player is a confirmed member of the Pro Team and is locked until the next trade period.
WHAT DOES BEING LOCKED TO A TEAM MEAN?
While a player is locked to a team, the team cannot kick the player, and the player cannot leave the team.
CAN A PRO TEAM INVITE BE RESCINDED?
Yes, but only if the player has not accepted it yet. Once a player accepts an invitation, the player cannot be removed from the team.
CAN A PLAYER BE INVITED TO MORE THAN ONE PRO TEAM?
Yes, but they may only accept one of those invites.
UPDATED: ARE THERE SUBSTITUTE PLAYERS?
Subs are no longer registered in the roster lock period. Teams that qualify for a Major event will be able to issue a Substitute Player invite to any player not participating in the Major once the qualifiers for that Major are done.
UPDATED: CAN I RE-ADD A PLAYER TO MY TEAM DURING THE ADD PERIOD THAT LEFT DURING THE DROP PERIOD?
Yes, any available player can be added.
UPDATED: WHAT IF WE NEED TO MAKE ROSTER CHANGES AFTER THE LOCK?
Making changes to your roster will cause your team to no longer be eligible to receive a direct invitation to either the Major or the Regional Qualifiers. Your team may still register and participate in the Open Qualifiers.
WHAT IF WE NEED TO MAKE ROSTER CHANGES AFTER THE LOCK?

WHAT IF WE NEED TO CHANGE SPONSORS OR JOIN A TEAM ORGANIZATION?
We have no restrictions on what organization or sponsor the team is part of, that is up to the arrangement between the players and the organization. The roster lock date only imposes the requirement that the registered set of players remain together.
WHAT HAPPENS TO PENDING INVITES AFTER AFTER THE LOCK DATE ?
At that time, all pending invites will be canceled.
UPDATED: WHAT INFORMATION IS PUBLICLY VISIBLE?
Invites are private, and can only be seen by the inviter and invitee. Once a player has locked to a team, that lock is made public. If a team removes a player or a player leaves a team, that information is also public.
