ESL One Genting 2017 Groups, schedule and format

ESL One Genting 2017 Groups and schedule have been released. In less than one month, eight teams will be competing at the Genting Highlands resort area of Malaysia for the $250,000 prize pool January 6-8, 2017. ESL One Genting 2017 will be the first LAN to bring in the new year.

With just over three weeks to go, the ESL One Genting 2017 Groups and schedule have been released.

Three directly invited teams – Wings Gaming, Digital Chaos and Fnatic have been joined by Virtus.Pro, Team NP, Execration and Newbee – which have qualified through their regional events.

Only one spot is left up for grabs – a local team to represent Malaysia.

ESL One Genting 2017 Malaysian qualifiers will be conducted in two phases. The first phase gets underway this weekend, starting November 26 and concludes December 15th. The second phase will take place December 17-18th.

ESL One Genting 2017 Groups format

• The group stage will be played in a classic GSL format.
• The eight participating teams will be split up into two groups of four.

  In each group, the teams will play best-of-three matches, as shown below:

  Match one: Team A vs. Team B
  Match two: Team C vs. Team D
  Winners’ match (WM): Winner of match one vs. winner of match two – winner advances to semifinals
  Elimination match (EM): Loser of match one vs. loser of match two – loser drops out
  Decider match: Loser of WM vs. winner of EM – winner advances to semifinals and loser drops out

• Four teams will advance into the playoffs.
• Four teams will be eliminated in the group stage.
• During the playoffs, four teams will play a single-elimination bracket.
• The Grand Finals will be best-of-five series, with no winners’ advantage.

All matches will be played back-to-back.

ESL One Genting prize pool

The base prize pool for the tournament is $250,000.

• 1st place – $100,000
• 2nd place – $50,000
• 3rd-4th place – $25,000
• 5th-8th place – $12,500

ESL One Genting

In July ESL One announced their return to SEA region with ESL One Genting to be held in The Genting Highlands resort area in Malayisa. The event is scheduled to take place January 6-8, 2017 with eight of the best teams competing for the $250,000 prize pool.

It was no surprise that the event being held in Malaysia would extend a warm invitation to one of the region’s most powerful and famous teams – Fnatic as the first invite. Digital Chaos landed the second invite while Wings rounds them out.

The remaining five teams qualified to participate through various events. Thus far, Virtus.Pro, Team NP, Execration and Newbee have secured their spots.

The newest of the ESL tournament settings is located in The Genting Highlands resort area of Malaysia, about one hour from Kuala Lumpur.

The event will take place at the Arena of the Stars. AOS is a part of a resort that includes multiple hotels, amusement parks, casinos & nightclubs that also features a 6,000 person capacity amphitheater.
