Several months ago MarsTV announced a new $1 million Chinese Dota 2 league – DPL being held in collaboration with the Chinese General Administration of Sport and Perfect World, starting on May 18th. The event included two seasons, with the first season leading into the second based on team rankings.
After months of competition Newbee was able to finally reap the fruits of their hard work and incredible performances – with a happy ending and championship title.
After DPL season 1 Newbee played Season 2 Senior League. They took top placement in their group for the season 2 with a 9:6:1 record, totaling 24 points.
Due to the “Bubble bracket” format, the team was immediately placed into the Grand Finals where they then faced IG.Vitality who had come in just below them with 22 points in the group stage.
Newbee’s performance at Boston Major was sub par taking 9-16th place, immediately followed by 5-10th place at WCA. They then struck back, rallying behind their struggles and tests to take second place at China Top 2016 and now the championship title for DPL Season 2.
