Team Basically Unknown cuts out Ionut “Ar1sE” Turtoi after less than five days, amidst recent drama and multiple Internet connection issues, both coming to a head simultaneously.
Shortly before the start of Basically Unknown’s match versus Flipsid3Tactics in the main event of EIZO Cup #15, Ionut “Ar1sE” Turtoi tweeted a clip of a team fight which had been previously carried during a scrim between Basically Unknown and Cloud9. The tweet prompted a strong reaction from Cloud9’s captain, Jacky “Eternal Envy” Mao, who called Ar1sE “stupid”. Basically Unknown lost against Flipsid3Tactics in EIZO Cup, due to the Romanian player’s constant Internet connection issues. In the middle of the unrolling drama, Basically Unknown’s captain, Ivan “MinD_ContRoll” Borislavov, announced that the team was letting Ar1sE go. The Romanian player claims he found out about the news on Twitter.
How the drama stretched out, step by step
Shortly before the start of Basically Unknown’s official match versus Flipsid3Tactics in the main event of EIZO Cup #15, Ar1sE posted a 15-second clip of a team fight that had taken place during a scrim between Basically Unknown and Cloud9. The tweet prompted a strong, negative response from Cloud9’s captain, Jacky “Eternal Envy” Mao, who called Ar1sE “stupid”.
During the EIZO Cup match, both Ar1sE and the captain of the team, Ivan “MinD_ContRoL” Borislavov, got disconnected and the game was paused for an extended period before being resumed. As opposed to Ar1sE, MinD_ContRoL was able to reconnect. However, the team was forced into a remake with a stand-in. After some additional connection issues, Basically Unknown – widely viewed as the favorite to win beforehand, was bound to carry out the game at a numerical disadvantage. They called “GG” just moments later and were eliminated from the tournament.
Moments after the match ended, Ar1sE engaged in a verbal sword-play with Eternal Envy, on Twitter. Within the following two hours, MinD_ContRoL tweeted an apology, reporting that Ar1sE was no longer on the team.
@EternaLEnVy1991 I wanna apologize for this video, Ar1se made it himself, he is not gonna play any longer in Basically Unknown @BU_Dota— MinD_ContRoL (@MinD_ContRoLlL) March 18, 2015
Ar1sE issues an apology
Ar1sE apologized on his stream earlier today, blaming his attitude on his frustration with the connection issues he has been facing lately. The Romanian player claims Basically Unknown made the decision of cutting him out prior to the video debacle. Since he officially joined the squad, his constant Internet connection issues have brought about delays and lost matches for StarLadder series, versus Team Empire, on March 13, and again in the ProdotaEU Hitbox Tournament, versus M5, on March 15.
Ionut “Ar1sE” Turtoi was previously part of Team Tinker, as well as a stand-in for Team Empire and Evil Geniuses, and captain of Romanian team Cede Nullis. He joined Basically Unknown on March 14. The team is now down to four members: captain Ivan “MinD_ContRoL” Borislavov, Nikolay “Stomanen1” Kalchev, Petur “Pure Evil!” Petrov, and Nikolay “Nikobaby” Nikolov. Ar1sE will continue as a free agent, streaming his practice games. He has a history of “flames” directed at Cloud9’s Eternal Envy.
