The final days of The Summit 3 is upon us with the playoffs winding down and only three teams remaining to compete for the $271,685 prize pool and the title of The Summit 3 Champions.
Evil Geniuses have eliminated LGD and Team Secret has sent the defending champions, ViCi Gaming, to the Lower Brackets to fight the North American giants Evil Geniuses.
The Summit 3 Upper Bracket Semifinals #1
ViCi Gaming vs. LGD
ViCi Gaming continued their undefeated winning streak, dominating LGD, 2:0. They then advanced to the Upper Bracket finals, dropping LGD to the Lower Brackets to face the losing team between Team Secret vs. Evil Geniuses.
In the first game, things started off quietly, until about 13 minutes into the game, when a fight initiated by Daryl “iceiceice” Koh resulted in 3-0 trade in VG’s benefit, starting to tip the net-worth scale in their favor. By sixteen minutes in, VG would be leading LGD in networth by 7.5k in gold and by 26 minutes in, it was a 10k gold difference. It was not long until ViCi Gaming was taking down barracks and LGD was unable to stop them, calling “GG” by 31 minutes.
The second game started with ViCi Gaming slightly ahead. By mid game, they had managed to secure more than a 5k gold lead and establish full map control, by completing objective after objective. 21 minutes into the game, the gold lead was 10k in VG’s favor and they had taken down towers and barracks. LGD wasn’t about to surrender and went for another push down the mid-lane, taking towers and barracks. With a base-race to end the game, VG came out victorious.
The Summit 3 Upper Bracket Semifinals #2
Team Secret vs. Evil Geniuses
Team Secret swept Evil Geniuses and kept their undefeated status going into the Upper Bracket finals.
Team Secret didn’t hesitate at all and crushed Evil Geniuses in less than 20 minutes for the first game. Although EG started with a good laning phase, it was lost early after a few kills on Drow Ranger and Dark Seer. Two Roshan attempts would be devastating for EG, as the first attempt failed and resulted in a four-hero loss, while the second allowed them to secure the Aegis they heavily lost in the following fight. “GG” was called after 18 minutes.
The start of the second game appeared to be even and fairly quiet with both teams focused on farming. Despite some successful ganks by Syed Sumail “Suma1L” Hassanon\s Invoker, the net-worth favored Team Secret with BristleBack and Gyrocopter topping the chart. After killing Roshan, Team Secret started to gain more advantage. With Aegis in hand, Secret pushed the bottom tower and then barracks. A second Roshan kill would solidify their lead and advantage.
The Summit 3 Lower Bracket Round 1
LGD vs. Evil Geniuses
In another typical 2:0 The Summit 3 dominance, Evil Geniuses eliminated LGD from the tournament and secured themselves a final chance to compete in the Grand Finals.
At 14 minutes into the game, first blood still had not yet been drawn and the game was quiet with both teams farming. According to Alan “Nahaz” Bester, “of 2,463 First Bloods on record for 6.83 pro #Dota2 matches, only one occurred after the 14 minute mark.”. LGD would secure first blood at 15 minutes into the game, but the advantage was little help for them, as the Chinese were team wiped soon after, not only once, but twice within two minutes. EG grabbed Roshan and split into three groups pushing into base. A second Aegis and a second push attempt would end the game.
Evil Geniuses took a significant early lead dominating the laning phase, securing first blood and getting pick offs all over the map, resulting in a 7-0 kill lead. The gold advantage was easily in their favor and the North Americans were leading the net-worth chart. 15 minutes into the game, an attempt at Roshan was thwarted with LGD taking a 3-2 trade at the pit, but EG was able to respawn before LGD had completed the Roshan kill, resulting in a second fight and EG taking the Aegis. A second Roshan kill and much farming was enough to make EG too powerful to be stopped, despite a third Roshan attempt with Aegis being stolen by LGD. Evil Geniuses were able to push their way to LGD base and eliminate the Chinese team from the tournament.
The Summit 3 Upper Bracket Finals
ViCi Gaming vs. Team Secret
Both ViCi Gaming and Team Secret would go head to head, each undefeated and looking extremely powerful. With ViCi Gaming dominating the first game of the series, many were beginning to wonder if the Chinese powerhouse would sweep through the entire tournament without a loss. Team Secret quickly dispelled those thoughts and brought ViCi Gaming down in a 2:1 series resulting in Team Secret being the team to advance to the Grand Finals and ViCi Gaming dropping into the Lower Bracket.
ViCi Gaming started the series showing their strength and control over Evil Geniuses. VG’s Bounty Hunter pick proved to be troubling for Team Secret. Kills after kills and the poorest hero on ViCi Gaming being higher ranked than the richest hero on Team Secret were more than enough for the game to be uncontested. ViCi Gaming took the game in only 22 minutes.
Team Secret were not going out without a fight and started the second game off considerably better, having an excellent laning phase. By 15 minutes, Team Secret had the lead in both net worth and kills and had just taken the Aegis, pushing towers and taking all objectives to solidify their lead and maintain control. After an uncontested Roshan 17 minutes in, Team Secret started to plow through the towers and eventually the barracks. Ten minutes later, ViCi Gaming would call “GG”.
First blood went in favor of Team Secret. By ten minutes into the game, things were even between the two teams and it was still anyone’s game. At around the 12-minute mark, Gustav “s4” Magnusson’s haste rune would turn a gank on him into a four-hero wipe in favor of Team Secret and allow them to start pushing mid lane. Ludwig “zai” Wåhlberg’s impressive hookshots would clinch the game for them with 12 hooks thrown at a 100% success rate. ViCi Gaming called the game by 25 minutes.
