Change of plans in the MarsTV Dota 2 League. Due to scheduling conflicts, Invictus Gaming and Vici Gaming will not be able to compete in the league’s qualifiers, thus have been directly invited to the MarsTV Dota 2 League main event, which will take place in Shanghai, China, from June 3 to June 7.
Invictus Gaming and ViCi Gaming were initially supposed to compete in the MarsTV Dota 2 League qualifiers, together with other eight Chinese teams: Newbee (Defending Champions), LGD-Gaming, CDEC, E-HOME, HyperGloryTeam, Immortal Magneto Gaming, Team DK and TongFu. However, since both Invictus Gaming and ViCi Gaming have hectic schedules outside of China, the Mars TV Dota 2 League organizers had to reconsider the tournament’s entire format and issue them direct invites to the main event.
According to MarsTV’s official statement:
The decision to not invite Invictus Gaming and Vici Gaming to the Chinese qualifiers is due to their other commitments outside of China. As a result, it would have been impossible for them to complete their matches in the Chinese League. It was inconceivable for us not to see them in our own tournament, already one of the biggest in China. Considering their recent performances, it also made sense to give them a direct invite. They officially join Cloud9, one of our four international teams, in the list of teams confirmed for the main event.
With Invictus Gaming and ViCi Gaming receiving direct invites, the MarsTV Dota 2 League main event will feature 10 teams, instead of 8, as it was originally announced. The format has been adjusted to accommodate the 10 teams. Instead of playing in a double-elimination bracket, the teams will be divided into two groups of five and compete in a Round Robin format. The teams that finish last in both groups will be eliminated from the competition, while the remaining eight teams – four from each group, will advance to the single elimination playoffs.
Cloud 9, first international team invited to the MarsTV Dota 2 League
Cloud 9 was the first international team to receive an invite for the MarsTV Dota 2 League main event. Three other international teams will be announced soon.
MarsTV Dota 2 League
MarsTV announced the upcoming 2015 season of the MarsTV Dota 2 League, on April 29. The tournament will feature a base prize-pool of 2 million RMB, approximately $322,000, and will be broadcast exclusively on HuoMao.TV. The prize-pool is significantly higher than last year’s 150,000 RMB pot. In 2014, the MarsTV Dota 2 League winner was Newbee. The Chinese team went through the playoffs undefeated, 5:0, and bested LGD, 2:0, in the Grand Finals.
The Chinese qualifiers
The MarsTV Dota 2 League Chinese qualifiers kicked off on May 7. Out of the eight teams taking part in the qualifiers – Newbee (Defending Champions), LGD-Gaming, CDEC, E-HOME, HyperGloryTeam, Immortal Magneto Gaming, Team DK, and TongFu, four will advance to the main event.
MarsTV have recently clarified their point system for the qualifiers:
While most tournaments award one point for each win, we prefer to give three points for the team that won two consecutive games. It’s hard enough to win one game, so winning two in a row deserves a good reward. As a result, winning one match gets you three points, one for a draw and zero for a loss.
