The Alliance bested Na’Vi 2:0 in the European ESL One qualifier last night, becoming the first team to qualify for the LAN event to be held this June in Frankfurt, Germany. ESL One Frankfurt 2015 will be Alliance’s first LAN event of the year, after the former TI champions went out with a whimper in the past few months.
Na’Vi started the qualifiers looking strong, sweeping through their brackets undefeated against Balkan Bears Coreleone and Hell Raisers. The Alliance, looking equally strong, wiped out FlipSid3 Tactics and Power Rangers, upset the favorites, Cloud 9, and ended up scoring a clear-cut 2:0 victory against Natus Vincere. Alliance lost to Evil Geniuses in the semi-finals last year and now have the chance to face them again and seek revenge.
Former TI champions Alliance and Na’Vi hit dry spell amidst roster changes
The most notable meeting between these two teams to date remains the grand finals of TI3, with Alliance claiming the prize and title of TI3 Champions. Although both teams are TI winners, there have been numerous roster changes and struggles for both of the teams in claiming any significant victories or titles in recent months. The last roster changes for both teams happened just within weeks of each other last month. On March 6, Sebastien “7ckingMad” Debs officially joined the Swedish roster, while Na’Vi parted ways with Arthur “Goblak” Kostenko on March 25.
The Alliance current roster:
Per Anders “Pajkatt” Olsson, Jonathan “Loda” Berg, Joakim “Akke” Akterhall, Niclas “Niqua” Westergard, Sébastien “7ckingMad” Debs
Natus Vincere current roster:
Alexander “XBOCT” Dashkevich, Danil “Dendi” Ishutin, Ivan “Vanskor” Sorokhod, Olexandr “DkPhobos”Kucherya, Akbar “SoNNeikO” Butaev *stand-in
