Team Onyx came out of left field in the NA Kiev Major qualifiers.
Completely blindsiding their competition, the team usurped Team NP 2:0 before rising to the grand finals to upset compLexity Gaming with a 2:1 victory.
The team was low on the radar, taking 3rd place in the group stage with a mediocre record of 4:2. Many fans, and most likely teams, did not see them as one of the two major competitors of the event.
Being underestimated and on the heels of the Abed Azel “Abed” Yusop and his meepo in teh deciding game – the team turned the region on its head.
Their win secured them a place among the best at the Kiev Major.
Here we go, Onyx turning a trap around on @compLexityLive and the @abedyusop Meepo is almost unstoppable. https://t.co/pVYqIHf6Zu pic.twitter.com/wIDsE8aSY7

Team Onyx NA Kiev Major qualifiers winners
At the start of the season, Jimmy “DeMoN” Ho announced his new team – Team Onyx. At that time the roster included only four official players – Kanishka ‘Sam’ “BuLba” Sosale, Kim “DuBu” Doo-young, Mason “mason” Venne.
Many fans hoped to see Abed join the ranks after his surprising announced departure from Execration – a hope that had come to fruition for them.
The breakout 15 year old gained a significant amount of fans and respect when he had the distinct honor to be the youngest person to compete at a Valve event during TI6. His meepo has been a standout hero, along with his phenomenal overall skills demonstrated through the year.
Since their inception, the team competed in the StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season 3 American Qualifier and Dota 2 Asia Championships 2017 Americas Qualifier with their only official tournament being Elimination Mode 3.0 where they placed 3-4th.
