The Kiev Major Open Qualifiers registration process has begun. There will be TWO opportunities for up to 1024 teams per region to contend for spots in the Regional Qualifiers. This time around, there are 6 regions – South America and CIS have been added to SEA, China, Europe and North America. All pertinent information, including registration details and rules have been released, giving ample time to prepare for the open qualifiers held between March 6-9th.
The Kiev Open Qualifiers registration has been opened officially.
The Open Qualifiers will be hosted by FACEIT and Perfect World and will take place between March 6-9th.
For the first time, there will be SIX regional qualifiers – CIS and South America each receiving their own.
Participants will be held to the 3 out of 5 player rule as criteria to register for a region. Teams physically residing in a location will be permitted to participate in that region.
Many had speculated changes would occur following the influx of European teams playing in the Americas qualifiers, initiated by Prodota Gaming.
For the Kiev Open Qualifiers, regions are defined as follows:
EU – Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kosovo, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Turkey, United Kingdom (UK), and Vatican City (Holy See).CIS – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
NA – United States of America, Canada, and Mexico.
SA – Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela.
SEA -: Brunei, Cambodia, Japan, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mynamar (Burma), Pakistan, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, South Korea, Thailand, Timor Leste, Singapore, Vietnam.
The winning teams will advance to participate in the Regional Qualifiers, which will take place between March 10-13th. Two teams total – one from each qualifier of NA, EU, CIS, SEA will advance. Eight teams total from South America will move forward.
In addition one team from EU, SEA and NA will have a chance to take a spot in the regional qualifiers through the Champions Cup.
The Kiev Major will be held in Kiev, Ukraine, between April 27-30th, at National Palace of Arts, with a set $3,000,000 prize pool. Sixteen teams will compete at the main event hosted by PGL.
Kiev Major Open Qualifiers
Much like for the previous year’s Majors, there will be two opportunities for teams to compete in the Open Qualifiers for the Kiev Major. Two rounds of Open Qualifier will be hosted: the first Open Qualifier will take place on the 6th and 7th of March, while the second Open Qualifier will follow on the 8th and 9th of March. Teams are able to register and participate in both sets of events.
This is the first season there will be two additional regions added – one for CIS and one for South America.

Kiev Major Champions Cup Qualifier
FACEIT will be hosting The Champions Qualifier.
The Champions Qualifier is an invite-only tournament for winners of the EU, NA, and SEA Tier 8 Champions Cup within Dota2.
The invited players will be required to form teams with other invited players and compete to take a step closer to The Kiev Major 2017 in April 2017.

The Kiev Major teams
As part of the Major system, the roster lock was reinstated and teams were required to complete their roster registration by January 9th, in order to be eligible for the direct invites or Regional Qualifier invites.
The teams that will be directly invited to the Kiev Major and its Regional Qualifiers are expected to be revealed only one or two days prior to the Open Qualifiers. The Regional Qualifiers will occur between March 10-13th.
Kiev Major
The Kiev Major is scheduled to take place between April 27-30th at the National Palace of Arts, in Kiev, Ukraine. National Palace of Arts is one of the main theater venues in Kiev, Ukraine. It was opened in 1970 with a seating capacity of almost 4,000 in the main concert hall – approximately the same size as Wang Theater where the Boston Major was held this last fall.
In the past, StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season 2 hosted CS:GO at the event successfully.
The event will be hosted by PGL and will be the last Major ore-TI7.
Kiev Major dates
- The Kiev Major group stage will take place starting April TBA.
- The Kiev Major main event will take place between April 27-30th at the National Palace of Arts, in Kiev, Ukraine.
