ESL One Genting 2017 group stage ushered in the first major LAN tournament of 2017 with excitement and thrills.
The event got into full swing as Newbee utterly dominated their group, continuing on their hot streak since taking the championship title at Dota2 Professional League Season 2 only last week and second place at China Top 2016 just prior to that. The Chinese team blazed through their opponents – unleashing a devastating wrath against all as they took down Team NP with a score of 37:8 but bested the CIS stars Virtus.Pro 2:1 with a 34:2 score for one match. Their success placed them at the top of their group and into the semi finals of the playoffs.
Virtus.Pro’s victory over Fnatic puts them into the decider match series – leaving Fnatic and Team NP to battle it out for elimination early tomorrow.
Digital Chaos came out of the gate and new year swinging. Aliwi “w33” Omar crushed it with his signature Meepo plays, and Roman “Resolut1on” Fominok’s nailed it with a flawless Luna performance. Poised for success, the team rallied behind their momentum and superior drafting to outplay and defeat the TI6 championship team Wings Gaming. Wings have been showing more struggles and less polished coordination in the new patch while DC seems to be thriving. The North American victory pushed them to the first place slot of their group and a place in the semi finals.
Wings Gaming had taken their win against WG.Unity – moving them into the decider spot of the group stage. WG.Unity and XctN will fight in the elimination series for a final chance to advance to the playoffs.
Matches will resume with the final day of ESL One Genting 2017 group stage on January 7th at 03:30 CET with the elimination series between Team NP and Fnatic – followed by the elimination series between XctN and WG.Unity.
