The 2016 Korean esports Award has been doled out for “Best overseas activity award of the year” for a team once again to MVP.Phoenix.
The ceremony and announcement was held in Seocho-dong, South Korea at the Nexon Arena in the evening local time. Lim Hyeon Seok, the Head Coach and manager for the organization was on hand to accept the award on behalf of the team.
Although Dota 2 has not made much of an impact on the esports scene in Korea, the MVP organization has made a dramatic splash in the international Dota 2 scene.
In 2015 the organization received the same award after both of their rosters – MVP.Phoenix and MVP.Hot6ix qualified for and made history in attending The International 5.
Post TI5 MVP.Phoenix completed their roster to include a combination from both of the organization’s teams.
After two roster changes for the Korean organization, the team stared out by taking 5th-6th at the MLG World Finals 2015, 4th at the Game Show Global eSports Cup Season 1 and a disappointing 9th-12th place at WCA 2015.
They then qualified for the Shanghai Major and placed 4th in the main event, showing an incredible improvement in synergy and mechanics. Shortly after, the Korean team then went on to win the Dota Pit championship title.
Taking a surprising 7th-8th place StarLadder i-League Invitational, the team still received recognition for their hard-work and talent when they were invited to the WePlay LAN and received a direct invite to the Manila Major. WePlay LAN then witnessed a decisive victory by MVP.Phoenix over Vega Squadron, 3:1, bestowing the Korean squad with their second championship title and trophy in less than six weeks.
The Korean team took a 5-6th place finish at the Manila Major followed by a first place rank in the Pro Gamer League 2016 – Summer.
MVP.Phoenix Post TI6
MVP.Phoenix rounded out their successful year with a commendable 5th-6th place at TI6.
Following the event, the MVP Phoenix roster retained three of its longstanding, core members – Kim “QO” Seon-yeop, Kim “Febby” Yong-min and Kim “DuBu” Doo-young, as the organization headed into the Fall Major 2016 season.
Joining the three Koreans were two known members of the organization – Kim “Velo” Tae-sung and Lee “Reisen” Jun-yeong from MVP.Hot6ix – taking the place of Lee “FoREV” Sang-don and Pyo “MP” No-a who both joined Team Secret for the new season.
After just over two months, FoREV made his way back to the team, eventually moving Reisen to the official substitute role.
Most recently the Koreans landed second place MPGL and 7-8th at MDL 2016.
