Dota 2 tournaments organizers seem to have been struck by spring fever of competition. In an already action packed schedule of official matches, three more tournaments have been announced for the month of May: MarsTV Dota 2 League, ASUS PlayItCool and Mountain Trail Challenge.

MarsTV has announced the upcoming 2015 season of the MarsTV Dota 2 League. The tournament will feature a base prize-pool of 2 million RMB, approximately $322,000, and will be broadcast exclusively on HuoMao.TV. This is significantly higher than last year’s prize pool of 150,000 RMB. In 2014, the MarsTV Dota 2 League’s winner was Newbee who went through the playoffs undefeated, 5:0, and bested LGD, 2:0, in the grand finals.
The league will start on May 7, with eight Chinese teams competing to be the four teams to advance to the main event, which will take place in Shanghai, China, from June 3rd to 7th. Four international participants will be announced in the upcoming days.
The teams participating in the Chinese league are: Newbee (Defending Champions), LGD-Gaming, CDEC, E-HOME, HyperGloryTeam, Invictus Gaming, TongFu, and Vici Gaming.
Why you should watch it
MarsTV hosted The International 2014 Chinese Qualifiers and the Dota 2 Asia Championships. MarsTV partnered up with Perfect World to organize The Dota 2 Asia Championships, known to some as “The International of the East”. The tournament was set up to be very similar to The International. The starting prize pool was set at $250,000 USD, but through crowd funding of compendium sales, the prize pool reached $3,057,519. DAC is expected to be one of the four Dota 2 tournaments called “Majors”.

ESL Gaming has also announced a surprise invitational LAN tournament to be held on May 3rd, in Cologne, Germany. The four invited teams – The Alliance, Virtus.Pro, Ninjas in Pyjamas and Lemondogs, are competing for a $30,000 prize-pool. Casting team includes William “Blitz” Lee, Austin “TheCapitalist” Walsh and current professional player Kai “H4nn1” Hanbueckers. Salome “Soe” Gschwind Penski will take the host role.
ASUS Play It Cool event will feature three tournaments for popular eSports titles – Dota 2, HearthStone and Heroes of the Storm, and is scheduled to take place over three days, from May 1st through 3rd. The Dota 2 portion will be held on the final day, Sunday May 3rd, starting at 11:00 CEST.
Why you should watch it
It will be one of the first LAN tournaments after the introduction of the new balance patch 6.84 and will feature a small intimate LAN setting.
Mountain Trail Challenge
Swiss DotA community announced a new online tournament featuring 16 European teams that will be competing for a prize-pool of 5,000 euros. The tournament will begin on May 2nd and conclude on May 24th in a best-of-five grand finals.
The tournament consists of four groups with four teams each. The top two teams of each group will advance to the best-of-three double elimination playoffs. The grand finals will be best-of-five and held on a separate day.
Base Prize Pool: €5,000
1st place: 60% (€3,000+)
2nd place: 30% (€1,500+)
3rd place: 10% (€500+)
Each DotaTV ticket sold will add 20% of its purchase price to the final winnings.

Why you should watch it
The Mountain Trail Challenge will be one of the first tournaments to be played on the new patch and many of the teams will be featuring new and updated rosters, including Vega Squadron, Power Rangers, and mYinsanity. This will also be a chance for the Tier 1.5-2 teams to try out their strategies and hope to catch Valve’s eye for a TI qualifiers invite, so you can be sure that the competitors will be playing their hearts out.
