The Shanghai Major main event started out with the same issues and delays that have been wrecking havoc on the second Major since the very first day of the group stages. Continued production issues, delays and general chaos and dissatisfaction with conditions are still prevalent.
Some of the few things that still make the event worthwhile are the spectacular performances put on by the teams and the surprising Shanghai Major results.
Winning this Bo3 is hugely important. Winner secures Top 6 while the loser will have to face the threat of a Bo1 Round. #ShanghaiMajor

MVP.Phoenix came out of the gate swinging, riding high on the momentum from the Group Stages. They continued to impress everyone with their sheer dominance over LGD and their well coordinated and well thought out drafts. They have not dropped a single match so far in this event.
Alliance and LGD will be playing tomorrow in the brutal best-of-one elimination series, with the hopes of surviving another day.
The Shanghai Major results: Upper Brackets
Four of the eight teams in the Upper Brackets have competed in the first day of the Shanghai Major. Team Liquid, Alliance, MVP.Phoenix and LGD Gaming went head to head in the efforts to be the first teams to advance further into the Upper Brackets and secure a top 6 finish at the second Dota 2 Major.
Team Liquid vs. Alliance
The first game in the series to start the main event of the Shanghai Major was a much anticipated match-up. In the first game, Team Liquid were very strong, with Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen on Ursa and Adrian “FATA-“ Trinks on OD playing exceptionally well. Team Liquid was able to shut down Henrik “AdmiralBulldog” Ahnberg’s Lone Druid, keeping Alliance from advancing too much. Despite the Swedish team’s slight lead and advantage, without LD coming online, Team Liquid were able to snatch the control and lead from Alliance and claim the first victory.
The second game was a roller coaster of emotions and great plays. After almost one full hour, Alliance were able to seize the game to tie up the series and force a deciding third game. Outstanding games by Jonathan “Loda” Berg on Naga Siren and Admiral Bulldog on Beastmaster gave the Swedish team the advantage in the mid-late game and allowed them to then plow through Liquid.
The third game gave AdmiralBulldog Beastmaster again, who scored first blood on Team Liquid. However, the teams were equally matched and traded kills and objectives with great plays. Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi was a great counter for AdmiralBulldog and Adrian “FATA-“ Trinks had a great start, helping to pick up the pace and momentum for Team Liquid. Despite a great Aegis steal, the following fight was a disaster for Alliance and gave another boost to Team Liquid. Once they started to gain the lead, they were able to hold on to it and charge forward with control and great execution.
Shanghai Major results: Team Liquid 2:1 Alliance. Team Liquid advance in the Upper Brackets, while Alliance drop to the best-of-one elimination series in the Lower Brackets.
MVP.Phoenix vs. LGD Gaming
During the first game of this series, MVP.Phoenix came out of the gate looking incredible strong, as previously seen in the group stages. Taking first blood, the Korean squad continued to dominate and secure kills and map control immediately. They were able to take a very clean win in only 23 minutes with a impressive performance and display of dominance.
In the second game, LGD looked much better and seemed to have more of an advantage. However, MVP.Phoenix was able to turn the tables by capitalizing on some of LGD’s mistakes and executing their draft well. The Korean squad was able to seize the control and the game from the Chinese team and snowball to the end once they grabbed the lead.
Shanghai Major results: MVP.Phoenix 2:0 LGD Gaming. MVP.Phoenix advance in the Upper Brackets, while LGD drop to the Lower Brackets to compete in the best-of-one elimination series.
