Shanghai Major talent officially revealed

The Shanghai Major talent and broadcast teams were revealed by Valve with the release of the Winter 2016 Battle Pass, featuring the Shanghai Major compendium.

Included in the team are 18 casters, analysts, observers and stats staff to cover both the group stages and the main event.

The Shanghai Major will take place between March 2-6, at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, China. A fixed prize-pool of $3,000,000 is on the line.

The Winter Battle Chest released last night also comes with the Compendium for the Shanghai Major, which includes the official Shanghai Major talent list.

Last week, some individuals announced they were invited by PerfectWorld to attend the Shanghai Major, but there was no official post made by Valve until now.

The Shanghai Major talent team consists of 18 staff total, including some of the best and most beloved Dota 2 personalities. Many familiar faces are notably absent from the list, such as Alan “Nahaz” Bester and Paul “ReDeYe” Chaloner. However, some other veterans and newer faces are set to be present.

Among the most noteworthy additions is the return of James “2GD” Harding to the hosting role. Harding has been absent from the scene for the most part since TI4. His return marks a momentous occasion for GD Studios fans.

New additions to the Shanghai Major talent include Jorien “Sheever” van der Heijden and Sebastien “7ckingMad” Debs. Both were noticeably absent during the Frankfurt Major and both had been part of The International 5 talent lineup.

Shanghai Major tickets

Unlike for the Frankfurt Major, in which tickets to the main event were open to the public and did not require a ticket for any day except for the day of the finals, the Shanghai Major will be charging admission for all of the main event days.

A variety of tickets are available, ranging from single day purchases starting at $15 (¥99) to VIP seats with access to all days and a gift package for $150 (¥999).

Dota 2 Mercedes Benz Arena for Shanghai Major

The second Dota 2 Major will be held in Shanghai, China, at the Mercedes-Benz Arena – an indoor arena located on the former grounds of Expo 2010 in Pudong, Shanghai, China, with a seating capacity for 18,000 people. The total prize-pool of $3,000,000 is a fixed amount and Perfect World will be in charge of production.

Perfect World and MarsTV had partnered up to organize The Dota 2 Asia Championships (DAC) in January-February 2015, known to some as “The International of the East”. The tournament was set up to be very similar to The International. The starting prize fund was set at $250,000 USD, but through crowdfunding of compendium sales, the prize-pool reached $3,057,519.

Perfect World also hosted The International 5 Chinese qualifiers.
