Shanghai Major Qualifiers SEA results: MPV.Phoenix’s sights set on China

The Shanghai Major Qualifiers SEA results for the final day of the competition are in! MVP.Phoenix is the final team to qualify for the Shanghai Major in China, after overcoming Taring, 2:0, in the Shanghai Major Qualifiers SEA Lower Bracket finals.

MVP.Phoenix have scored the Shanghai Major Qualifiers SEA results they were definitely hoping for.

The Korean squad will join OG, Team Secret, Evil Geniuses, EHOME, ViCi Gaming, CDEC, Virtus.Pro, Alliance, Fnatic (the winners of the SEA Qualifiers), LGD (the winners of the China Qualifiers), Team Liquid (the winners of the Europe Qualifiers), and Team Archon (winners of the America Qualifiers) for the main event scheduled to take place between March 2-6, at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, China.

Two teams from each of the regions will qualify to compete for the $3 million prize-pool.

MVP.Phoenix were dropped to the Lower Bracket finals yesterday, after being swept away, 2:0, by Fnatic’s reignited performances.

First Departure managed to overcome Taring, 2:0, in the Lower Brackets and moved forward to face the Koreans and become a possible candidate for the second Dota 2 Major this winter.

MVP.Phoenix completely stomped over First Departure in the opening match. Kim “QO” Seon-yeop ended his game on Death Prophet with a score of 14-0-12 and the lead in gold – over 10K more than the first hero of FD. Pyo “MP” No-a had a perfect game on Juggernaut, as well, going 9-0-8.

The second game was equally as bad, if not worse, for First Departure, ending in 25 minutes, with a score of 28:8. Again, MP and QO carried their team to victory with stellar performances.

The previous Malaysian squad, formerly a part of the EHOME organization between January – March 2015, was signed by Fnatic on June 4th.

During The International 5, Fnatic have failed to advance into the Upper Brackets of the main event, having secured only four points during the group stage. They were knocked out of contention by Virtus.Pro from the very first day of the TI5 main event, on August 3rd, in a brutal best-of-one elimination series.

The organization made significant changes following TI5. Mushi and Ohaiyo were the only remaining members. Changing directions, the team then became infused with an international flavor, with Djardel “DJ” Mampusti from the Philippines and Dominik “Black^” Reitmeier from Germany on the squad.

Missing the mark with results, the team made another roster change.

After replacing German carry player Dominik “Black^” Reitmeier with coach Ahmad Syazwan “ADTR” bin Anuar. Struggling to find their groove in LANS, the Malaysian based squad has had disappointing results lately.

In the Southeast Asian region, which is typically given only one spot to represent a series of small countries, Korean team MVP.Phoenix has worked hard and strived to take their success to a global level with top placements in all local Korean tournaments, as well as in Southeast Asian regional tournaments, such as the IeSF Asian Championships and Nexon Sponsorship Leagues.

With a commendable 6th place finish at TI5, MVP.Phoenix won the hearts and respect of fans all over the world. Following the post TI shuffle, the two MVP teams merged rosters and created an all-Korean lineup.

They have since taken 5-6th at MLG World Finals 2015 and 4th at the Game Show Global eSports Cup Season 1

Shanghai Major Qualifiers SEA format

• The ten teams have been divided into two Round Robin groups of five.
• Top two teams will advance to a double elimination bracket.
• First place team will start in the Upper Brackets.
• Runner-up team will start in the Lower Brackets.
• Playoffs are double elimination brackets.
• The first and second place teams from the Shanghai Major SEA Qualifiers will advance to the main event in Shanghai, China.

Shanghai Major

The second Dota 2 Major will be held in Shanghai, China, at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. The arena is an indoor arena located on the former grounds of Expo 2010 in Pudong, Shanghai, China, with a seating capacity for 18,000 people. The total prize-pool of $3,000,000 is a fixed amount and Perfect World will be in charge of production.
