DPL – Dota 2 Professional League is a new Chinese league sponsored by the Chinese General Administration of Sport and hosted by MarsTV. The first year will feature a total prize pool of $1 million split among 22 teams. The first season kicked off on May 18th. Teams are competing for $200,000 – a segment of the league’s total prize pool – and their division placement for season 2. The second season will start in October, featuring $800,000 in prize money.

Last week, MarsTV announced a new $1 million Chinese Dota 2 league being held in collaboration with the Chinese General Administration of Sport and Perfect World, starting on May 18th.
The league will span over seven months: the first season will take place between May and July, with a $200,000 prize pool. The second season is expected to run between October and December, with a prize pool of $800,000.
GASC (General Administration of Sport China), Perfect World and MarsTV key representatives attended a joint press conference held at the Grand Hyatt Beijing. During the event, it was revealed that the aim of the league was to “complete the growth of players and integrate the tournaments in the ecosystem of DOTA2 in China“.
In addition, all participants will receive an official statement and certificate authenticating each player as an official professional athlete in China.

DPL season 1 format
- 22 teams
- Best-of-two round robin group format
- Teams placed 9th to 12th will have an extra tiebreaker to determine the 9th and 10th places
- Final top 10 teams advance to the Season 2 Senior League
- Teams ranked 11th to 20th advance to the Season 2 Minor League
- The last two teams are eliminated
DPL season 1 prize pool
The prize pool for DPL Season 1 is $200,000 and is to be evenly distributed to all the participating teams. Teams that will place in the Senior League will get a slightly higher distribution than those that place in the Minor League for season 2.
DPL Season 2 will feature $800,000 in prize money.
