Vega Squadron CEO Alexey Kondakov wrote a very detailed and frank blog about the team’s recent results, their struggles, dynamics and future status.
It was within the unrestrained candor that the Russian revealed that two players will be making their leave from the team and will be replaced with players that will fit more with the philosophy and structure.
We were not playing worse, it’s just the opponents were improving more quickly (…)There were also issues between players that we did not manage to fix. Small problems slowly, but steadily got bigger and bigger. We have players that feel the atmosphere inside the team more than the others. There are players, that are not really sensitive in that way. At the same time, there are players that lose control over themselves quickly. So, this particular roster isn’t that great.
So, we decided to go for 2 replacements. You’ll hear of them very soon, after the contracts are signed.
The organization has taken much strides to empower and promote growth within their team. The organization utilized their LoL coach and employed an analyst, and even had use of a psychologist and physical trainer.
Kondakov acknowledges these are vital areas of players and teams but admitted that not all players saw use of them nor accepted the approach. He affirms that if a player doesn’t see value or is forced into the activities it is no longer of benefit. He states that progress will only come from desire – a trait that the two new players will possess.
We might hire a new coach and a new psychologist, the last experiment wasn’t the most successful. The ingame coach is also good to have, but we’re mostly aiming for a guy that takes care of the discipline, daily schedule, diet, correct practice process. Daily schedule is extremely important here. Any doctor will approve my words: staying up till 4 a.m. at your computer is harmful. We already have an amazing analyst, and if our team can sit down together and take care of their mistakes, then we don’t need an ingame coach. But discipline should be there. This is the weak spot of the CIS Dota.
The team took 6th in the group stage of Boston Major Qualifiers with a 4:5 record and 6th place in DreamLeague with a 6:8 record failing to advance in both. They also took a disappointing 9-12th finish in the ESL One Genting 2017 qualifiers, being knocked out in Round 12 by Fantastic Five.
