Escape Gaming and EHOME prevail in the TI6 Wild Card series, as they earn the two remaining spots in the main tournament. compLexity and Execration didn’t get the TI6 Wild Card results they were hoping for and have thus failed to advance into the competition. Escape Gaming and EHOME will join the other 14 teams – OG, Team Liquid, Newbee, LGD Gaming, MVP.Phoenix, Na’Vi, Evil Geniuses, Team Secret, Wings Gaming, TnC Gaming, Digital Chaos, ViCi Gaming.Reborn, Alliance, and Fnatic – in the TI6 group stage, scheduled to last for three days, starting today, August 3rd, through August 5th.

First series of the day starts at 09:00 PDT/18:00 CEST, with the entire eight teams of Group A battling it out.

UPDATE:

TI6 Main Event LIVE updates – HERE

The beginning of the TI6 Wild Card series was marked by a flurry of excitement.

Execration and compLexity Gaming struck first and hard, each taking an incredible first match from their opponents. Each of their series was pushed to the third game, and both XctN and coL ended up dropping to the Lower Brackets. EHOME and Escape Gaming would take the high road to the main event.

Unfortunately for compLexity and Execration, their first wins of the opening series would not foreshadow their fate, as they were both sent home by the end of the day, before setting a foot on the main stage.

Execration seemed primed for a Cinderella story. After weeks of anxiety and apprehension surrounding their visa situation, the team was only informed on Friday, July 29th, of their visa approval – mere days before the TI6 Wild Card series. The Filipino team featuring a 15 year-old prodigy would make history as being one of the first teams from the Philippines to participate in the Internationals, hosting the youngest player to grace the event, to date.

compLexity Gaming had recently enlisted the help of Alan “Nahaz” Bester as their coach and analyst, and even hired a “life coach” from IMG Academy to refine their strategy and communication for the big event. The team was ready to claim their spot in the main event after a 9th-12th place finish at T15 and attendance at all of the major and premier LANs since their current roster formation, in November.

EHOME and Escape Gaming, on the other hand, appeared to really step up their game since their last appearances in a tournament and looked to be in prime form.

The two teams will get no rest, as they head into the Group Stages immediately to lock horns with the best teams in the world.

In an incredible opening, Execration brought their A game to Seattle. They managed to stage a beautiful comeback after being down 10k in networth and claim the first win of the series. EHOME remained cool under pressure and – in a roller coaster of a second match – took the victory to even out the series, 1:1. Experience and composure, as well as a little help from Naga Siren, would serve EHOME well to easily take the third game and the series.

TI6 Wild Card results – Upper Bracket Preliminary: compLexity 1:2 Escape Gaming

blank

compLexity’s opener was very convincing, as their execution seemed to exude confidence and calmness. Escape Gaming grabbed a Lone Druid as second pick in the next game and used the Bear to run through compLexity Gaming – forcing the 1:1 tie. After losing a few fights at the Roshan pit, compLexity Gaming started to lose their edge. Yazied “YapzOr” Jaradat had a solid performance in the last game of the series, and a team wipe on the North American squad led Escape Gaming to the series win and Upper Bracket finals.

TI6 Wild Card results – Lower Bracket Round 1: compLexity Gaming 0:2 XctN

blank

Execration came at compLexity Gaming like a bat out of hell and destroyed the North American team in a bloodbath, 40:12. Timothy “Tims” Randrup on Earth Spirit was a crucial element in XctN’s first win. In the second game of the series, a Meepo pick for 15 year-old Abed “Abed” Yusop played flawlessly would be compLexity’s demise, as they were overpowered in 26 minutes and knocked out of TI6 contention

TI6 Wild Card results – Upper Bracket finals: EHOME 2:0 Escape Gaming

blank

Escape Gaming didn’t stand a chance against Daryl Koh “iceiceice” Pei Xiang’s Naga Siren and Ren “ELeVeN” Yangwei’s Axe in the first game. Fighting back hard in the second one, iceiceice’s Antimage and Wang “old chicken” Zhiyong’s Timbersaw were just too overwhelming to control. EHOME cruised through the series to become the first of the Wild Card teams to claim a spot in the main event.

TI6 Wild Card results – Lower Bracket finals: XctN 0:2 Escape Gaming

blank

The first match of the series belonged to Escape Gaming with a superior draft, and a great performance by Adrian “Era” Kryeziu on Tiny. While the Filipino hopefuls put up a fight, the momentum from their upset over compLexity Gaming quickly fizzled out. The second game was over in 18 minutes and left XctN with not a single kill on the board.

Last year’s event, The International 5, took place between August 3rd-8th at the KeyArena – a multi-purpose arena in Seattle, Washington, with a maximum capacity of over 17,000. The Dota 2 community contributed with a staggering $16,829,613 to the $1.6 million base prize pool, making the total prize fund of almost $18,429,613 million the largest in esports history at that time. The International titleholder is North-American team Evil Geniuses.

This year’s main event will take place at the KeyArena in Seattle, Washington, between August 8th-13th. All 16 participating teams will advance to the main event and will receive a share of the TI6 prize pool.

The International 6 prize pool has outpaced The International 5 one from the very beginning. As of July 27th, the total TI6 prize pool has already broken last year’s record, thus becoming the largest in esports history.
