16:45 CET: Frankfurt Major results,Group D: Winners’ Match: EHOME 0:2 CDEC(Winner advances to the Upper Bracket)
As expected out of these two teams, there was a lot of fighting throughout the entire game as it ended with 67 kills total. The game was fairly even between them until about 21 minutes into the game when CDEC started to pull ahead. The two weak points exhibited by EHOME was that Juggernaut was not very efficient against Winter Wyvern and the ghost sceptors andWang “old chicken” Zhiyong died too many times in the early stages of the game. Both teams executed their lineups really well but it was CDEC who took the first victory.
In the second game, CDEC took the lead right from the beginning and easily seemed to dominate over EHOME. With EHOME taking Vengeful Spirit, it seemed that that the pick didn’t do much for the team and spending all the time stacking for Shadow Fiend, the hero was slow to gain levels, items and strength. Due to CDEC’s aggression and mobility, EHOME was having trouble finding a safe place for Spectre to farm and was really behind, unable to commit to fights and do much damage. A five man wipe at 24 minutes was enough for EHOME to call “gg” and give CDEC the game and series victory.
- Frankfurt Major results: CDEC swept EHOME, 2:0, and advanced to the Upper Brackets in the main event. EHOME will compete in the Decider Match.(*No teams will be actually eliminated during the group stages; scroll down for the groups stages format.)
14:40 CET: Frankfurt Major results, Group D: Group C: LGD 2:1 Cloud 9
LGD took first blood and had control for the first 30 minutes. Cloud 9 was able to turn it around after a great team fight for some time, but LGD was able to regain their control and continued to push forward. Cloud 9 overall seemed to be quiet and fairly passive in their game play. They did make some of their best plays when they were behind, but it wasn’t enough for them to take the overall advantage or to take the victory. Tusk was a good pick against the heroes in Cloud 9’s lineup, being instrumental in team fights for LGD.
The second game was much closer between the two teams from the beginning. For the first 30 minutes of the game, it was very even and back and forth, until Cloud 9 was able to take Roshan about minute 33 minutes into the game. They then came out on top in a few back to back team fights and pushed through to victory only 6 minutes later. Ravi “Ritsu” Kodippili had a flawless game on Templar Assassin 11:0:9 and was overwhelmingly farmed. The NA team was able to tie up the series and push a third game decider.
LGD claimed first blood, setting the tone for their aggression and intent to win. The Chinese team worked quickly and effectively to shut down the Alchemist, leaving the hero with little farm and making him pretty useless in Cloud 9’s lineup. Overall LGD played really well and both Liu “Sylar” Jiajun and Lu “Maybe” Yao had great games and great farm. Without the Alchemist being farmed well, there was not much that Cloud 9 was able to do to stop the Ember Spirit. LGD were able to take victory and series easily.
- Frankfurt Major results: LGD bested Cloud 9, 2:1, and have advanced in the Winners’ Match. Cloud 9 will compete in the Elimination* Match. (*No teams will be actually eliminated during the group stages; scroll down for the groups stages format.)
14:30 CET: Frankfurt Major results, Group D: CDEC 2:1 Mineski
In the first game CDEC had the lead and control from the very start, but Mineski had a good start to the game, showing a lot of promise of their potential. However, as the game progressed, the Philippine team made too many mistakes, including suffering from 3 team wipes in a row. CDEC’s aggressive style and well coordinated rotations and team play were able to capitalize on the errors and take advantage of any openings to further their advantage and take the first win.
Despite CDEC having the control and the lead in kills, experience and gold for almost the entire second game, Mineski were able to claim the victory. Pushing hard with the AM they staged a huge comeback after a 10k gold deficit and having lost a set of barracks. The Philippine team was on the verge of losing but their successful base race gave them the very unexpected victory, evening out the series and forcing a deciding third game.
Mineski started out strong, taking the lead early but CDEC held on and did not give up. They were then able to comeback after about 30 minutes into the game, following a few successful team fights and taking Roshan. By the end three of the Chinese players were at the top of the net-worth chart and they were able to close the game out with over a 30k gold advantage.
- Frankfurt Major results: CDEC bested Mineski, 2:1, and have advanced in the Winners’ Match. Mineski will compete in the Elimination* Match. (*No teams will be actually eliminated during the group stages; scroll down for the groups stages format.)
