LIVE UPDATES: Frankfurt Major main event standings, brackets, commentary and analysis (day 1)

The Frankfurt Major main event kicks off today with two Upper Bracket matches, followed by four best-of-one elimination matches in the Lower Brackets that will send four teams home. The day starts with the best-of-three series between Evil Geniuses and Vega Squadron, at 10:30 CET. Evil Geniuses, Vega Squadron, CDEC and LGD will all be competing to take the high road to the Grand Finals and remain in the Upper Brackets.

Newbee, Unknown.xiu, OG, Fnatic, Cloud 9, Alliance, EHOME and Newbee.Young will fight to stay alive and see another day at the Frankfurt Major main event. Four teams will end their journey today and walk away with $30,000 each.

23:45 CET: Frankfurt Major main event standings, Lower Brackets:Newbee.Y vs EHOME

EHOME drafted Chen “Cty” Tianyu his signature Queen of Pain and the Viper pick up was a great choice as Newbeey.Young didn’t have any heroes to really counter it. Hu “Kaka” Liangzhi ‘s Bounty Hunter had great rotations and gave the team a lot of vision and map awareness. EHOME completely dominated the game and survived the death best-of-one matches.

Unknown took First Blood. 17 minutes in, a Roshan attempt turned bad for Newbee, resulting in a teamwipe plus lost aegis with Unknown losing nothing. The favorable fight brought the Peruvian team back to the lead and as they were already starting to outfarm Newbee, they began to continue to build their advantage. A few questionable fights and over-extensions would cause them significant losses but in the end they were able to comeback and claim the victory, upsetting the TI4 champions.

21:00 CET: Frankfurt Major main event standings, Lower Brackets: OG 1:0 Fnatic

Team OG take their infamous Tiny-Io combo and also a Huskar pick, sending a clear message that they meant business in this match. Massive plays around minute 15 resulted in team wipe on Fnatic and further solidified OG’s lead. A Godlike streak on Amer “Miracle-“al-Barqawi’s Huskar, ending with a score of 10:1:7, was too much for Fnatic to handle and keep up with overall.
