ESL have announced the ESL Dota 2 Major League. The first season will kick off on September 2nd, with a Pre-Season Qualifier open to all European, CIS and African teams. The top 248 teams will be distributed into five Divisions, while the remaining teams will be placed in the Starter Division. At the end of the two-month season, the top three teams in Division 1 will be awarded 1,000 EUR.
After hosting over 70 Go4Dota 2 cups, we decided to take the next step into offering the European Dota 2 Community more ways to play at ESL Play. After gathering feedback from the Community we realized that you like to have flexibility of when you can play your matches. With that we came up with the League System: with Seasons and Groups, one match per week that can be re-scheduled according to the involved teams’ needs.
The ESL Dota 2 Major League system consists of Seasons and Groups. Every team will play one match per week, which can be re-scheduled in a two-week period according to the involved teams’ needs. ESL Dota 2 Major League teams will play for the top place in their current groups, in order to win prize money at the end of the season or to be promoted into the next Division. This season, a total prize pool of 1,000 EUR is up for grabs in Division 1. Dota 2 enthusiasts can find all the information they need at the ESL Dota 2 Major League portal.

ESL Dota 2 Major League
In the first season of the ESL Dota 2 Major League, ESL are aiming to have a total of five divisions. Each division represents the skill level of a team. The best teams are located in Division 1, the next best in Division 2 and so on. The Starter Division is a division outside the system where the new teams are placed. From there, teams can advance in the Division System.
Each division contains a certain amount of groups. The higher the division, the less groups it has. Each group contains a total of eight teams, and during a season all teams play against each other. The number of participating teams is unlimited.
Newcomers will be placed in the Starter Division, where the groups are distributed by countries. As the seasons run by, ESL may also implement country groups in the higher divisions.
The first season of the ESL Dota 2 Major League will kick off on September 2nd, with a Pre-Season Qualifier where everyone can join. At the end of the Pre-Season Qualifier, teams will be split into groups in a round-robin distribution. The higher a team’s position in the Pre-Season Qualifier, the better the division the team will be joining. The sign-up process for the ESL Dota 2 Major League Pre-Season Qualifier is now open here.
The Pre-Season Qualifier will be a Swiss Cup and it will be played over the course of two weeks. The top 248 teams will advance in the corresponding Division, while the remaining teams will be placed in the Starter Division.
