The Dota 2 Masters Tournament in South Africa kicks off today. For the first time, eight top local teams will compete for R100,000 – approximately $7,030. The event sponsored by Digital Gamers League (DGL) is being held at the Ster-Kinekor head offices in Johannesburg, South Africa, between July 22-24. The Flipsid3 Tactics South African division will be on hand to compete.
DGL hosts its first Dota 2 Masters Tournament this weekend in South Africa. Eight local teams will compete for the R100,000 – approximately $7,030 – prize pool in front of a live audience.
The ticket registration is already closed for fans to watch the finals at the cinema, on the big screen. Although the event is much smaller than the inaugural Masters Tournament for CS:GO that took place earlier this year, the competition is expected to be just as successful – drawing much attention, big crowds and viewership.
The stage host is Gareth Woods, who will be joined by casters Devin “Hellbird” Riggotti and Shaun “Profeci” Murell, and desk host Richard “DeMoNiK” Sjoberg.
The eight teams include none other than the Flipsid3 Tactics South African division. The North American organization has an academy division for both Dota 2 and CS:GO located in South Africa.
