D2CL EU playoffs Upper Bracket Finals
Team Empire and Ninjas in Pyjamas faced off in a long and grueling best of five series that was pushed to the fifth game to determine Team Empire’s victory. The teams last faced each other at MLG Pro League Championship, in Columbus, earlier this month, Team Empire taking both victories, and eventually the championship title.
D2CL EU playoffs Lower Bracket Finals
After yesterday’s unexpected announcement, Balkan Bears Corleone replaced HellRaisers in the semifinals due to HR needing time to secure their visas in less than 2 weeks for Red Bull Battle Grounds. BBC faced NiP and fell easily to the swedes, 2:0.
BBC weren’t ready to give up on their new chance to redeem themselves at a LAN after MLG Columbus, where they came in 5th out 6th place with only one win. They dropped to the Lower Brackets to face Power Rangers, who had lost to Empire, 2:0, only the day before. With a score of 2:1, BBC took the series and advanced to the Lower Bracket finals. It was here in the Lower Bracket finals that BBC would once again face NiP for the last chance to advance to the LAN playoffs.
The Lower Bracket finals were originally supposed to be best of five series as well, but where shortened to best of three, as NiP had just recently played out five matches in the Upper Brackets. Despite fatigue, having come straight off a difficult five game run vs. Team Empire, NiP was still able to sweep BBC, 2:0 and make all of their time and effort invested into the playoffs worth it.
Team Empire and Ninjas in Pyjamas will be joining Burden United and Vici Gaming at the LAN finals. The LAN finals will feature a prize pool of over $50,000. As of April 16, 2015, the total prize pool has reached $78,508. Location rumors have not yet been confirmed.
