MLG Columbus first day woes have taken center stage on all social media platforms, leaving very little information and talk about the actual games played. Besides Not Today’s def-loss melodrama and reschedule being “un-rescheduled” stutter, focus has been around the lack of soundproofing for the players.
"They're laughing. He's probably near you." LMFAO

And that's why you have booths.

The incident
As Evil Geniuses’ Kurtis “Aui_2000” Ling on Skywrath Mage is searching for Morphling, played by Gleb “Funn1k” Lipatnikov, who is hidden well in the trees and unable to be detected on the mini map or on the screen. At that specific point in the game, at approximately minute 18, you can clearly hear the crowd burst into laughter, as Aui_2000 walks right beside and circles around Funn1k. From the “Turtle Beach” audio clip from the players’ booth, PPD says “they are laughing, he’s probably near you” and Aui_2000 continues to stay in that area looking for the hero.
The Reaction
Cloud 9’s Johan “BigDaddyN0tail” Sundstein became very vocal about the situation and openly voiced his opinions:

#Soundproof #PlzNotAtTI #Unreal
I do not care about the players, this is on the tournament

http://t.co/zGos3gKPls for those that don't understand. I for one would not look at this game being a legitimate game after this point

Things like this have happened many in the past, it's about time booths were moved, improved or added on top of noise cancellation.

The Debate
The incident then sparked much debate about the tournament set-ups and logistics when it comes to the sound control matter. While creating soundproof booths for a short time period may be more expensive than is feasible, there are other options to consider, including the white-noise headsets that are given to players, as well as location.
Gg empire +funn1k sry about using crowd noise 😛 I've NEVER EVER been to a LAN with total soundproof. It's very hard to do I believe.

In previous tournaments, even the big ones it has been up to managers or even spectators to catch people not obliging to rules concerning1/2
— Johan Sundstein (@BigDaddyN0tail) April 11, 2015
this. I've never went to a lan where admins checked or forced me to play with the whitenoise/static that the headsets are for.

Shouldnt the integrity of the competition be above all else. So put the players in some backroom. Got player cams anyway! Same applies to ti

While it’s unclear if the tournament will enforce the use of the white-noise headsets or make any changes to the sound situation for the upcoming matches, MLG Columbus will go on tomorrow, wrapping up the Round Robin phase.
