After a disappointing season that culminated with the failure to qualify for The International 6, Bai “rOtK” Fan has announced his retirement. In 2014, the Chinese player retired only to make a determined comeback a few months later. Whether his retirement will be permanent this time around or he will manage to put this season behind him and return to the competitive scene, remains to be seen.
After a disastrous season in which ViCi Gaming has been less than the sum of its talented parts, Bai “rOtK” Fan has been left on the sidelines and will not be attending this year’s International.
As if the road this far hadn’t been potholed enough, rOtK’s critics kept shoving his lack of success down his throat, in case he hadn’t noticed. Which he had.
The legendary Chinese player has announced his retirement in a reply to a fan comment on his Weibo page. At the moment, no further comments have been made by either the player or the organization he is registered with, ViCi Gaming.
According to Liquid Dota, rOtK’s comment translates to: “Bro, I’ve already retired. Stop flaming me. Sylar is an excellent carry. Hope he will have a good form (in the future). I will cheer for them from behind.”
Bai “rOtK” Fan has a widespread, acclamatory reputation. Bai started his Dota 2 career on Team DK, in August 2011. He remained on the team until August 2013, placing fourth in The International 2 and sixth in The International 3.
After he parted ways with DK, rOtK joined ViCi Gaming. As their captain, he led the team to their first premier championship title and then helped them skyrocket to the second place at The International 4 – a tremendous performance.
Following his successful year as part of ViCi Gaming, rOtK announced his retirement, planning to lay back for a while, and start casting and promoting Dota 2 in China. However, he couldn’t stay away from the competitive scene for too long. In December 2014, rOtK recruited other retired players and put together a team. He called it “Big God”. It wouldn’t be long until he joined team EHOME, in March 2015.
EHOME had to battle their way through the qualifiers in order to snatch a spot at The International 5. They placed 5th-6th at the main event, and rOtk left for LGD Gaming shortly afterwards, joining alongside Liang “DDC” Faming to replace Zhang “xiao8” Ning and Yao “Yao” Zhengzheng.
After rather lackluster performances with LGD and an early exit at the Shanghai Major, rOtK returned to ViCi Gaming for the spring season. The lineup looked strong on paper, but failed to perform to its full potential and finished the season with little to no achievements and the failure to qualify for The International 6.

(969 comments)Rotk is already a legend. All that’s left for him is to win a TI championship. The real enemy he is facing right now is age. Hopefully he comes back one last time and win a TI.

(868 comments)I like him as a player and even more as a person because his heart is always in the game, he’s like the most passionate Dota player there is. But I think his recent performances (since TI5) have been too inconsistent to be on a top tier team. Still, I hope this is not his final decision.

(969 comments)This year for him was very bad. If only they qualified for TI

(868 comments)I think not qualifying for TI is the only reason. Even if your whole season is bad, if you go big on TI, it’s a successful year for the team.

(868 comments)He does that every now and then, retirement in China apparently means nothing… Don’t be surprised if he comes back in a month or two
